Any comments on age, so far, I'm thinking 17th century, french, possibly a pistol, only one small rod holder found?

Some Brown Bess had a similar lock side plate... Not likely near you but early Dutch had similar shape too.
Trigger guard on most Bess had a hole for a sling.
A fusil could have a similar guard shape ...but not seeing similar side plate.
