Great finds, and that’s the best dug Flying Eagle I’ve ever seen.

Nice digs Art. Love the FE, cufflink and Jacksonian button

Thanks Steve, it was one of those places the soil was perfect.

Artyfacts,

Great hunt, the Flying Eagle cent looks amazing for being buried and the buttons look great as well. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

That’s an awesome period Freemason cufflink. Find out what lodge is in that area and let them know. I’m a Freemason and I know they would love to see it. If the local lodge is a very old one, you may be able to find out who owned it. Mason lodges generally have descent record keeping.

eagle button not militia - england made - they starting putting eagles on backs to appeal to the US market

Yes, I have been hearing the same here and there every time I find one, manufactured in England for USA. These attachments are from the Emilio collection a button book from over a hundred years ago. He wasn't sure back then if these back marks were military, note his question marks. The only one who would have been swayed to the patriotic eagle backed buttons were the garment makers in quantities. The buttons sewn on would have no appeal to the open public since they would never see the back of these buttons, just my thoughts. I'm going to stay with Mr Emilio, maybe militia.capture-20200430-092621-crop.png

Nice ones. Buttons are great finds.

Great photos excellent finds and the freemason's cuff button / cufflink (that's a guess) is really cool!

Excellent day! All around great keepers and a very fine condition flyer!! Id take that day, any day

Killer coppers and buttons! :occasion14:
