I went to dig clams the other morning , I passed an old house , the barn door was open and there were 2 huge piles of stuff on both sides of the driveway . No free sign , too early to knock on their door . I came back by to go to my clam buyer and I saw a guy come out of the barn with the Cutty Sark box and he hurled it on 1 of the piles . I quickly sold my clams and headed back to the house and asked the man if he was taking the stuff to the dump - hes said yes & and I could take anything I want . His helper pulled up in a pickup truck to get another load for the dump . He told me there was another pile up stairs in the barn I could pick through - so I did .

over 50 pounds of barn door hinges
a bunch of nice hatchets & axes
Standard Oil can
a bunch of old Maine licence plates
transit
I'll post the Gold and Silver later

There ain't no one here on Tnet that would have passed that up.....congrats on the score!

I would have not only not passed but would have volunteered to finish cleaning out the barn and hauling it off. Nice Scores.

Ain't that the truth!!

Flat out, all around AWESOME score!!

Me too! I would've told him to leave it all there and that I would do it for free if I could keep whatever he didn't want

Egads!
What a score!
The bladed tools alone would be cause for a scream and happy dance... but lots of other goodies too.

Here's the silver and possible gold -
Up stairs in the barn pile there were several boxes of old stained clothes . One them rattled when I shook it (stuff in the bottom )
I took the old clothes out , and down next to the mouse nest , mouse poop , and mummified bird there was a jewelry box spill - with the jewelry box .

Sterling button hook , sterling ring with purple stone. The pins , pencil , perfume pendant , have no markings . The jewelry box is Meriden Silverplate , the bottom has some engravings '' cleaned by S.N. Tabey Sept . 20 , 1880 " .

When I was putting the old clothes back in the box , I heard something hit the floor - A RING .
A man's ring . Beautifully enameled Heart with a cross - no markings , so I took to buddy's pawn shop - It tested 10 k !

It fits my finger perfectly .

Don't worry , I proceeded to check every pocket I could find - nothing else

Unbelievable, and amazing score! I know that license plates are collectible, specially if they are porcelain, and/or the set (front/back). And then the barn doors opened, and so did heaven! :-) Congratulations.

Great score buddy , congrats .. cheers Mick

As I was leaving , Lots of more people were arriving , digging through stuff outdoors - I spotted this GAR metal in the dirt next to the pile - people were stepping on it , I waited for a opening , and grabbed it ! I didn't Know It was a GAR til I got in my truck and looped it .

is he tearing down the barn? a lot of old barn wood is worth a fortune.

good haul on all the other things.

Wow, gotta catch my breath here for a minute!! That GAR is amazing, and while I am NOT a jewelry person, that truly is one beautiful ring!!

Do I see a couple of pocket knives as well?!?!? :notworthy:

I'm totally flabbergasted at what people will throw in the garbage.. I wonder what he already threw out that you missed??!

No , the barn is excellent . I think they are getting ready to sell the place .

I wonder that too , I had free range of the place for almost an hour , til other people realized what was going on , so I got most of the good stuff . I still have a few more cool things I haven't posted yet .

I was looking for pocket knives - none that I could find - no Coleman lanterns - shucks !

Just showed the wife your haul. Then we started wondering if maybe someone passed away and it's the family who is tossing all this stuff out. After all, who in the world would keep anything of value in an old barn?!?!?
