I can't believe a buddy of mine dug up a 1500s coin. He found it somewhere on the Cape Fear river NC. Now I want to repeat I did not find this. Just want to share for friend. Congrats to my buddy on a awesome dig!

WOW!!! that's one old coin. Thanks for letting us take a look. Congrats to your bud.

I take it that is a Spanish coin. I'm not an expert on the real early stuff, but that is really cool.

Nice, but what is it?

Spanish maravedis coin. Date (illegible) would be to the right of the lion. (1665-1700)
Great save !
Don....

You have any pics of what one in better condition looks like or how they originally looked ?

nice find! is it pewter or copper or other??

Tell him I said congrats!

You just never know.... Crazy great find for your buddy. Thanks for sharing.

Thats an awesome find! Was that here in the USA? I have one just like it... unfortunately I cheated and bought it on ebay. I am not sure of any years or a year range, but to me the castle looks like the one in the Coat of Arms of Castile and Leon.

EDIT: I am oblivious, I saw that you said he found it in the US after reading your post again.
