hooked up with old hunt partner for my first field hunt of the fall on tues.
I got a few old coins but he ended the day with the winner - its beat - but identified
Ma. 1652 III pence silver
He got excited when he pulled it out and could see two of the II - thought he had a two pence
and could see some of the beading - you can see the WENGL around its right side - think its a pine tree
could be oak - too worn and beat to tell - but at least its a tree coin

other notable finds by him - the tiny rat tail baby spoon ...the brass spanners that may be 1600s or 1700s
arrow head which he eyeballed early in the hunt and musket balls - 2 being "indian" ones - (the barrel shaped ones)
a few period buttons

ALRIGHT GHOST WHERES THAT , NEVER MIND I FOUND IT. DANG SWEET COIN FIND .......

That hunt has a little of everything . If going for old the arrowhead wins. You did well with your finds as well. The Pinetree seems to show up often on this site as do GW buttons. But it is still a very nice find. Glad you posted your finds and your friends.

Wow. Regardless of the condition, that silver is amazing.

Beat or not...that's an outstanding find! Well done!

people aren't reading post - my friend found it - im just posting for him
planchet is bigger than oak tree 3 pences ive seen -closer to a pine tree which seems slightly larger than oak
it may have been hammered out cause it looks inbetween a 3 and a 6 pence
and its thin

Now that is Awesome :occasion14:

Amazing find! Congrats to your friend!

He did well! I'd take one in any condition.... and any denomination and any rarity too. Are you listening tree coin god?

Planchet sizes varied on all tree coins, some of the little ones flattened out more in the rocker press. I'm pretty certain of my ID on it being a Noe 25 Oak Tree Threepence. The first picture you posted had enough detail to make the ID, the second one doesn't have enough to confirm it though. The biggest giveaways are the positioning of the lettering, with the one N positioned down and to the right of the III. The font is also right for that type, but not for any of the Pine Tree's. The N to the left of the III is quite distinctive as well. Also, the E on England has a really distinct bottom corner not found on any other type except the even more rare Noe 26 Oak Tree Threepence.

The Noe 26 Oak Tree Threepence is still a possibility. The reverse of the Noe 25 and 26 are VERY similar. I'm still leaning Noe 25. It's definitely not a Willow Tree Threepence as they aren't a close match at all. I'm now certain it's also not a Pine Tree, unless it is an unrecorded variety that used the reverse plate from the Oak Tree series, which is possible. Here is the Noe 26 Oak Tree Threepence for comparison:

Wow. Of all the coins that could get hit by the plow. Why this one God?!?

Most of the time a coin that small just gets pushed out of the way by the plow, but its so thin it can't hold up to a direct hit.

GROUND COULD HAVE BEEN SLIGHTLY FROZEN WITH NO GIVE WHEN IT GOT HIT - WHO KNOWS
OR JUST HARD PACK AFTER THE WINTER SNOW

Great finds you guys made! Congrats
