Hey, I live on Ft Huachuca and would love any information on the location of Robert Jones treasure in Huachuca Canyon. If anyone else would be interested in poking around with me please let me know. I'm also looking for a partner in crime for metal detecting as well in the Fort and surrounding areas.

I know the Gov probably recovered it, would still like to check it out.

I have been searching off and on for it for a few years... Obviously I haven't found it and their are many people that think it's been recovered already however, I do not think that... Jones wouldn't have kept coming back to look for it if it was already recovered... I believe it's out there it just filled back in when it began to continue to rain... I still look for it and even if it was recovered its a good family event to do and go look for.

could you or anybody give me directions on how far down huachuca canyon road it is? I’ve been down there a bunch but came seem to locate it. Thanks

It was absolutely recovered right about the same time as Victorio Peak, NM.

Here is a map drawn by Jones:

When Chuck Kenworthy brought in SRI (Stanford Research Institute) in 1974, and did several different types of seismic, sonar, and ground penetrating radar tests. They found the void EXACTLY where Jones said it would be. But when they found it, it was filled with soil (maybe backfill). No gold or throne left. Just dirt. Jones went to his grave swearing his story was true.

The Gov. got that one too?

Well I went out there detecting today, I think I found the springhouse but I wasn’t sure where to go from there, so I just detected around that area. Didn’t find much, but it was a beautiful day to get out. Oh the pic with my dog in it is the creek on the right hand side of the spring house facing away from the fort. The 30-06 bullet has a head stamp of USA, UMC, 30 not sure how old it is and the chunk of metal I found I’m not sure what it is.

What you need to look for is the boulder with Jones' Initials cut into it.

Detecting will find you a lot of scrap. Your best hope of finding anything interesting would be to find that boulder, and from there, the narrow shaft that leads down into the chamber. It may have been backfilled, but that shaft was supposed (I think) to be cut out of the rock, not dug in dirt.

Yeah Mike I surveyed the area seeing if I could find the rock, I did find a bigger boulder behind the springhouse which I think may have had the initials of JR but I wasn’t certain it was an R, but the weird thing was that my detector was going nuts in front of this rock in a 3’x3’ area. My detector was screaming with a 00 number and plus 12” so I didn’t pursue due to the fact I would need a regular shovel and there was no way in hell I could dig that deep with my hand tool. I might go back tomorrow with some tools and see what I can do. Then again there were a lot of water pipes I dug up today at 12”s so I’m not getting too excited.
