garden knife

i found this knife when i was watering my tomatoes this afternoon
it looks like it possibly was broken on the end and resharpened
or maybe it was just made that way
if someone knows the type of material it was made from i would appreciate knowing
i found a point made from this type of material a while back but i don't find hardly anything else ever made from it

Nice Knife Larson! I dont see were it is broke looks perfect to me.the material looks alot like
carter cave. heres a couple of carter cave pieces I have found.

That is a nice find! The original owner couldn't have been happy when he/she lost that tool.

Looks like the graver spur was kept sharp by bevelling the edges - same as this uniface from Florida.

yes it is for a bone handle like you got there pickaway
the color looks like carter cave but the knife has kind of a sandy grainy sparkly texture rather than the super shiny carter cave
anyone else with any other ideas on the material type
i seethat it could be a graver spur
i thought it snapped of and was resharpened but the graver spur makes more sense to me

It looks like Hixton, but I'd bet a dollar that it's from one of the silicified sand quarries in Wyoming. The most famous are the Spanish Diggings quarries near the borders where Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming meet, but there are smaller quarries all the way up into Montana.

The picture isn't great, but this point is made from Spanish Diggings material from the Vore Site in the North East corner of Wyoming, the style is quite similar to your jaw notch points. (Plus they find KRF down that way, so there could have been a little trading going on.)

also americus, i did put the knife back into the tomato patch where it will get watered

iv'e found a few and i mean about 2 or 3 in the last 20 some yrs made from this material and nothing else ever made from this type of rock
