Despite all the naysayers, I use an APEX with the wireless headphones and the 11 X 14 Reaper coil exclusively for beach detecting. And it works quite well.
First
Mode Zero: you want to hear everything!
It's very simple to set the remaining settings using the menu button.
Sens: adjust this last as high as possible, but after you set everything up and ground balance!
Volume: As needed - use headphones! The beach waves make a high level of ambient noise. You will miss targets that you cannot hear.
Iron volume: 3-4 Yes you want to hear the iron but at a low volume. All depends on the beach you are on. Iron tells tells you where the heavy stuff is.
Freq: MS Wet or Dry: I use MS wet upslope from the surf line because the sand deeper down will be wet. If you are way back from the surf line MS Dry will work.
Channel: scan for the quietest frequency.
Be sure to press the pinpoint button to exit and set your changes. This also applies if you make changes later.
Once you get those configured, ground balance and then set sensitivity. If as you detect you get chatter, stop and ground balance plus rescan for quiet channel.
Happy Hunting!
