Garrett AT pro pointer

just returned mine for the 5th time in 3 yrs.this one & two before it for the exact problem u are talking about!only used this one for a mth..there is a problem w/this product & garrett quality control.my friend returned his twice(in 1 yr.).the local dealer was told by garrett that they know the design is flawed, but they don't to care.they sell enough of them & even if they have to replace or repair 1/2 of of the one's they sell, they still make a large profit.the markup is so high(they produce them for basically the pennies they are suppose to detect)& they control what it can be sold for.it is a real scam!i've written several letters to them about this & they keep shifting the blame to the user(me!).see my past posts for details.

Take off your wedding ring when you're using it this also helps ;)

Garret replaced my propointer with a propointer II. No additional charge.

By falsing I mean it will go off and not stop until you turn it off.

Call Garrett, they will fix it. Of course you might have to send it in. That's part of the reason I have three of them.

If you push hard enough on the dirt they will break and you will have this problem. It is not a digging tool. I did this with my first. since then I don't dig or push. just point.
I'm big but gentle.
I think Garrett stands behind there stuff and they go over and beyond the call of duty to fix and return things.
Just my experience with it.

Mine starting doing that when I would turn it on. It was less then a month old. It worked fine the first couple of weeks. I replaced the battery. Turn it on and it would just start going off. I sent it back to Garret and they replaced it. I guess it was a freak thing. The replacement has worked awesome the past couple of months with no issues.

Garrett has one of the BEST after sales customer relationship policy. I have never experienced anything but complete satisfaction when I had to ask them for assistance.

If they've redesigned the pro pointer then no.
But I've bought 3 pro pointers in the past 6 years or so. All of them are buggy. So are my friends.
The older it get the worse the problems. That's the reason I've had to buy new ones.
The first one wore out in a year. Yes it was under warranty and no I didn't bother with that.

There's a design problem and nobody talks about it.

My original Pro-pointer is over three years old and is finally giving me falsing issues... I keep it spotlessly clean and havent modified it in any way... And also have never gotten it wet within an inch of the light.

Mine is an original PP, not a "Pro-pointer II"

I sent Garrett an email the other day and they responded back within the hour with the following:

-------------------------------------------------Hello: Is a 2012 unit, not under warranty, but you can still send it here to be check an fix, charges will be $21.50 to diagnose it and cover shipping cost back to you plus parts if They need to replace any. Call us or provide the information below to create the Repair Maintenance Authorization# (RMA#) for it:

1.) Name:
2.) Address:
3.) Phone#:
4.) Pro pointer Serial#: 5226****
5.) Pro pointer problem:

So I'm working on boxing it up to send it off.

Has anyone gotten a similar response from them before?

How long was the turnaround for you guys who have done the same?

Did the repairs seem to be a "permanent" fix, meaning did you manage to go 6+ months without any issues after having it repaired?

For that pennance amount of $21.50 with shipping???, I woulda personally already put into a USPS bubble envelope, all for about $3.

Nobody ever quarantees "permanent" fixes. Gattetts has been great with any issues over my two original Propointers, which BTW, never had issues except for me trying to take one apart. Damndest this is that Garretts still repaired my screw up, for free.

Just send yours in and let us know how it turns out. You can hardly take an 8yr old kid to McDonalds these days and not scare the hellout of a $20. Just sayin'

Yes!!!! Constantly, annoying and frustrated.I have to shut it off and restart aleast dozen time a hunt.

I have the old style I have had for 5 or 6 years when I first got it I wrapped electrical tape around the speaker all because I did not like how loud the sound was have had no problems with it other than if you push it really hard into the dirt it will sound off. So I learned not to do that. It has gotten very wet many times but still no problems. I am thinking the tape over the speaker hole is the key.
