The reason California's gas is so expensive is the "cocktail" crap the state legislature has required of the gas refineries. Gas is refined SPECIFICALLY for California; just as several other states have mandated their OWN cocktail requirements. That special mixture $hit the the liberal legislatures think up is one of the direct reasons for higher costs in their gas.
As for Alaska, the gas cost so much there because of the TRANSPORTATION COSTS. Did you get THAT? There are NO refineries in Alaska therefore, they must buy their gas supplies from some refinery in the lower 48; then, have it transported to the state by ship; or to a lesser extent, by truck. Hell. When Fairbanks was founded, the smallest coin to be found in the whole area, if not the entire state, were quarters. It cost more to bring in shipments of pennies, nickels, and dimes than they were worth. GET IT?
That one comment about the Alaskans can move, is just ignor-ant bull$hit. The Alaskan natives use dogsleds when the snowmobiles aren't running. The Alaskan natives were screwed by Uncle Sam, just as the Native Americans were.......THEN get blamed for their own downfall. I lived outside of Fairbanks in the mid 70s, when Jimmy Carter's admin was planning to put another 6 million acres under Wilderness designation and told the folks who lived in the villages in the area they could no longer do any subsistence hunting anywhere in that 6 million acres. The locals told JC to stick that idea up his ass and to be ready to keep replacing wildlife rangers because any sent into their area would disappear. The Great White Idi-ots in Washington, D.C. FINALLY got it through their heads that the folks were serious and AMENDED the law so that the natives would be ALLOWED to continue their subsistence hunting. Did you get that
