I went to the auto supply store today; what a shocker! A case of Valvoline motor oil is $52. Last time I got a case it was something like $22. I guess they want ME to pay for that little mishap in the Gulf.
Of course, anything and everything that is even remotely associated with oil (plastics, medicines, lubricants, road work, etc) will skyrocket. If you possibly can, stock up NOW; the sales lady expected a rapid increase in prices.
I'm seriously thinking of collecting my used engine oil to sell on Ebay. Thieves used to steal gasoline by puncturing the gas tank; now they will probably knock a hole in your oil pan at the same time. Widen your front door and park your car in the living room, or sleep in your car with a shotgun. Don't say I didn't warn you.

That means we will have to be taking it in the rear shortly with fuel prices it's already well over £6 a gallon, coupled with a General election today who knows how hight it will go

About a week ago, I was talking with one of my first cousins who lives in Louisiana and he was very adamant about that rig. He said that there is no way that thing should have blown out like it did. He said that there is a blow out prevention valve assembly that is mounted on the wellhead, BEFORE any drilling is done. It and at least 5 REDUNDANT B.O.P. valves are put in as part of the assembly of the well head on the ocean floor. And, according to him, there is an engineer and technicians whose ONLY job is to monitor those BOP valves operations and ready status. 24 / 7 that is their ONLY job; testing and verifying the valves' working status. Also, he said that he hopes one of the missing is the rig engineer who allowed the explosion to happen. He said that what happened was the well hit a pocket of high-pressure natural gas and the lead engineer let it get out of hand instead of doing what was NORMALLY done in such cases. He SHOULD have STOPPED the drilling, pumped out the "mud" to relieve the pressure; tap off the gas to the burner setup, then pumped fresh "mud" back into the hole after the gas had be syphoned off, and drilling restarted. Cuz said that the BOP valves are constantly tested for proper operation; that the engineer and his crew's ONLY job was working with those valves. Cuz was VERY pissed at the rig engineer's incompetence.

For myself; I don't believe in CONINCIDENCE. Obuckup had just announced his intentions of expanding off shore drilling within the previous 2 weeks. Then, this happened THE DAY BEFORE EARTH DAY. Odamnable just gave himself a "cover" with his proclamation of more drilling and then had his reason to CHANGE HIS MIND...........which didn't really NEED changing because his plan was already in motion. Conspiracy theory? Maybe. But this crap happened a little TOO conveniently.

As an Alaskan for over 30 years I will add a few facts to this post:

Alaskans get a Permanent Fund Dividend for each year they are qualified to receive one, amounts varies but has been as high as $2000 and as low as $200. The Fund is supplied by Royalty oil monies, North Slope Royalty is 12.5% other areas vary. Alaska Constitution Provides that All minerals etc are owned by the people so the dividend we receive is just interest on our OWN money. (this year will be maybe $800)

McGrath is supplied by barge service via the Kuskokwim river, typically from Seattle, due to low water they have been unable to get the fuel barge to town.(for over a year) Prices are high because fuel is being flown in.

McGrath used to have more dogs than people(around 2000) on moonlit nights the howling was tremendous(experienced personally)

Alaska has two oil refineries, we pay more for fuel because we subsidize jet fuel prices, plus transportation in bush areas

Alaskans have an average income of 48k for a family of four (outrageous I know)

A snowmobile gets around 7 or 8 mpg (some new 4strokes are better)

Almost everyone in McGrath rode 3 wheelers in the 80's(last time I was there)in summer, snowmobiles in winter

There is no road to McGrath, Most of Alaska is roadless and likely to stay that way, there is one road to Canada (and the lower 48)

All goods, food, etc cost about 15-20% more due to freight in Anchorage, much more in bush Alaska, up to 100% more
(20 years ago a six pack of Coke in Barrow was $9.00, frozen pizza served in restaurant $45.00 In Kotzebue last year)

The Trans Alaska pipeline is running at about 50% capacity because we are not allowed access to known oil reserves

Winter Lasts 6 to 7 months, most homes are heated by Natural gas in Anchorage, oil or electricity in other areas, with wood stoves used as an alternate source of heat in interior Alaska. (my natural gas bill is $500 to $700 in winter)

Alaska Natives have probably the lowest standard of living of any group of people in the USA, most villages have no water or sewer systems. Electricity is expensive and unreliable at times. There are few permanent jobs in any village in Bush Alaska.

Employment in Alaska: Oil, Tourism, Fisheries, Military are the four largest

Bridges to nowhere: Ketchikan, Feds built the Kecthikan airport on a nearby island with the promise of a bridge in the future, if the bridge was built when it was first needed costs would have been reasonable. Knik Arm bridge, the Knik bridge has been on the books since the 50's at least, Anchorage is out of land for expansion, land prices are ridiculous in the Anchorage bowl. This badly needed bridge would open millions of acres for housing and development. Most families making under $60k per year cannot buy a home in Anchorage which is ridiculous. Politics are ruining any chance of either bridge being built when both are actually needed badly. Price tags seem to double every ten years so why wait?

So basically if you want to get anywhere in this state you have to fly, and its expensive. Alaska is being locked up as one huge nature preserve with little thought of it's residents. We are not allowed to build new roads, Highways or Railroads, the basic infrastructure that opened up the USA for development. Most Alaskans never see 1/100th of the state because you cannot just drive there. My favorite fishing spot is a 225 mile drive and then 20+ miles by boat, If I am lucky I get to go once every other year. One bridge would cut over 60 miles off that drive and save countless gallons of fuel per year. If anyone has questions ask away.

I think we should pay what it is worth! In talking to oil people, I have found out that it cost $5.00 to produce a barrel of oil at the export dock in Arabia.
Our current world economic condition was caused by the oil cartels attempt to raise the cost of a barrel of oil to $200.00 dollars! When it reached $140.00 a barrel, they had drained so much money from the world monetary system that the rest of the world was essentially broke. They had so much money that they were building palm tree shaped luxury resort islands, super highways to nowhere in the desert, a hole fleet of new skyscrapers,etc. when the world economy started to crumble ,they started to realize that they had killed the goose that layed their golden eggs! The consumption of oil dropped along with the price to $40.00 a barrel. They had an emergency meeting. A Sheik leaving the conference was asked by reporters what he thought of $40.00 a barrel. He blurted out that oil was worth $60.00 a barrel any time. This is the guy that was charging $140.00 a barrel several weeks before!!
Now you know what actually happened!!!
