Get ready for even more competition on the Beach

Oh brother, as if we don’t have enough competition on the beaches, I have a feeling it’s about to get worse. I was just on Minelab’s website and noticed something different about their Vanquish line of detectors. They were previously red with horizontal control boxes, and except for the search coil, the detector itself wasn’t waterproof.

But looks like Minelab has redesigned the Vanquish line and went with a vertical control box that to my eyes looks a lot like a Nokta. AND, in addition to them being Multi-IQ, they’re all now fully waterproof down to 16ft.

Looks like the price wars are heating up and Minelab appears to be going directly after Nokta, since the Nokta’s were priced a bit lower than the NOX’s & X-Terra’s. Now, anybody and their brother can get a fully waterproof, Multi-IQ detector for as low as $249.00. Bye Bye single frequency, looks like everybody will now be coming to the beach fully armed with SMF detectors.

You act like it's a bad thing. I think it's a wonderful addition to the Minelab line of detectors. Multi use detectors are the wave of the future and I'm glad to see they finally got on board with it. I'm not a big minelab fan, but I could be tempted to try one.

You act like it's a bad thing. I think it's a wonderful addition to the Minelab line of detectors. Multi use detectors are the wave of the future and I'm glad to see they finally got on board with it. I'm not a big minelab fan, but I could be tempted to try one.

It's not a bad thing per se', it puts SMF detectors well within range of more people, but that also means more competition. Newbies typically stay on the dry, maybe venture a bit down to the wet. I hunt the wet and into shallow salt water with my Dual Field PI and Sovereign, so I'm not worried personally about competition, experience still counts. My BBS Sovereign transmits 17 frequencies, so it was SMF before the term SMF or Multi-IQ was even coined.

10+ years ago, I pretty much owned the wet and shallow water on the beach, unless there was another hunter with an Excal. But everyone else back then were running single frequency detectors and pretty much stayed on the dry. But if everyone now can buy a waterproof SMF, no doubt there's gonna be a lot more hunters in the water and on the wet. So just preparing everyone to see more competition.

Agree to a point. The thing that IS different is the price point. When the BBS Sovereigns & Excals came out, they were expensive, so only serious hunters would spend the $ to acquire one, everyone else were running single frequency detectors back then, so those of us running Sov's or Excal's, or PI's pretty much owned the beach. Then, Minelab came out with the NOX's, Nokta & XP surfaced, so there were a lot more SMF detectors at much more affordable prices.

Now with the redesign of the Vanquish's, anyone can get an SMF detector for as low as $249. At that low of a price, anybody can afford and there's no need to even consider a single frequency detector. It's simply a numbers game. Put more SMF's into more hands, and we have more competition, which was the purpose of this thread.

This really good news! I have sent well over 100 Vanquish machines to financially insecure combat veterans suffering from PTSD. The 360 looks like a perfect beginner machine! Very good news indeed!

I'm not sure how much it will affect where I hunt but I'm sure there will be a few of those out at the fresh drop beaches in a couple of years. Great price and excellent for the beginner.

I remember when the Nox first came out and I seen a few "First" videos, it did catch my eye and had me thinking, and for sure the number of new hunters increased the first 5 years at several spots. Also I noticed many of the oldtimers were parking their old machines for the light weight Nox.

Nice looking machine and no worries here..

I thought about you and the Vet's when I noticed those new Vanquish detectors. Now, you'll be able to get them fully waterproof SMF detectors at crazy low prices. $249 for an SMF, waterproof to 16ft detector is crazy, but in a good way for the Vet's.

I don't think it will have any effect where you hunt Joe, one needs much more than just a detector to get out to where you hunt, lol.

Yeah, I'm sure there will be a lot of these hitting the dry in the next year or two. Just about all of the other hunters I've seen out on the beach in my last 4 trips were swinging Manti's, that seems to be the new gold standard. I did see 2 other guys on 2 separate hunts, but they were both brand spanking new newbies, with unknown detector brands and of course, swinging their coils 6" - 8" above the sand, lol.
