Retrieving targets...in murky water...where you can't see the coil...is indeed a most challenging task! Practice makes...frustration...I mean "frustration!" When you think I've figured it out...um...no, not really. Tt

Using a deep and/or wide scoop helps quite a bit. Also, in your pin pointing and scooping procedure......start the scoop a bit more toward you and work your way forward toward the target. That way you don't hit the target and can get under it easier.

In murky water yesterday, I scooped and I scooped with my 920iX over and over again, didn't count the times, and retrieved (finally) a zincoln cent.

I've taken to putting my toe up to the back edge of the coil and then placing the scoop at my toe and then going at it angling deep to begin with.

Times when the target seemed to move and I scooped multiple times, I admit to going on to the next good sound. Certainly wish I were better at it.

Takes some practice for sure ! And the deeper the water , the harder it is. Hard to retrieve a target when you're neck deep and are just floating up when you try to scoop down. I gave up on a great sounding target after a 15-20 minute attempt the other day. Was either just too deep , or I kept missing it. Sounded too loud to be small enough to slip through my scoop , and it wasn't moving around on me like floating foil. Decided to hit the rest of the beach , and find that one another day.

Try scooping a bit shallower so your target doesn't wash out.

I find shallow and/or multiple scoops are more likely to damage the target. I like getting behind and underneath a target to avoid damage.

I loaded up a weight belt for my last hunt, about 20 lbs of lead shot. That way when I pushed the scoop in, I didn't propel backwards, stayed right at the target.
