Getting used to my Garrett- junk I found in brother's yard

I haven't spent much time MDing even though I've had one for years, and since I just got a Garrett Deepseeker I thought I'd get used to it before going to the Outer banks at the end of this week. This stuff isn't pretty like all the other pics on here, but this is EVERYTHING I dug today, except most of the two dozen rusty nails. I hope exercising my patience pays off in OBX ;) My only real find MDing was a local Masonic Temple token from the early 1900s, and that was around 30 years ago :D I hope I'm able to post a much better pic from my trip!

Keep practicing and when you are in the OBX just stay focused. How long are you going to be in the OBX for?..I'm heading down on 8/23.

I'm heading down 8/14 and coming home 8/19. I hadn't planned on going down there this year, but figured my girlfriend and her daughter might like a trip to the beach. We actually just came back from a non-beach vacation two weeks ago, so this will be kind of like a bonus ;)

Keep looking, there's a lot more junk to dig (once in a while you will get a coin)!

I have had my XLT for 9 months and I am
still getting used to it.
I find great finds, but still learning.
Keep on hunting.

I hope you enjoy your trip down. My daughter is starting kindergarten in September so we are trying to squeeze as many vacations in as possible this year...most likely will not go on too many next year with her in school. We went to Mexico once and this is our fourth trip down to OBX. I hope you find lots of GOLD but leave a little behind for me...

try hunting in jewelry mode, set sensitivity one notch before the max.
You'll find alot less junk..but it that mode excludes all iron targets

good luck

Thanks, everybody! I promise I'll leave some gold and silver for the rest of you, too :D I happened to look online for sand scoops, and I probably would have bought one, but with 4 of us going, I decided I wasn't spending over $100 for something that might actually see very little use. So, after shopping at the hardware store and hurrying to get these done before the trip, here's what I've put together for sand scoops:

I've been going to the OBX since 1973. It is my favorite area of NC.
The Nags Head area is a great spot to have as your base camp.
I have found the fall and winter months the most profitable. If you can wait until after a nor'easter or hurricane has passed through bulldozing new sand away, you will find exposed areas that were several feet deeper during the spring and summer months. There is where you have a chance of finding the heavier metal objects (Gold, Silver, and iron relics). Spanish and English coins are not unheard of.

We're taking my girlfriend's daughter and one of her friends on a summer vacation, but that's good advice on waiting til the off-season. I know the rates would be cheaper! BTW, I booked a place right on the ocean, so the beach isn't too far away ;) Who knows, if this trip goes well, maybe we will go back down this winter when the kids are off school... I have a little over 10 weeks of vacation on the books, so thast isn't an issue :D
