Found a Gilbert clock token, twenty feet away from a green river whisky token that I found last month. Found lots of info on the whisky token but none on the Gilbert. Its the size of a large cent with the word Gilbert 1807 on one side and The words " THE RESULT DEPENDS ON ME", on the other. Roman numerals ring the edges, which gives the indication of a clock face. The clock company was in existence from 1828 to the early 1930's. Many examples of the fine clocks they produced but nothing on the token. If anyone can give info on the piece, I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry no picks.
thanks Wally

Re: gilbert cock token

I don't know about the token, but I can give you an opinion about the origin of the number "1807". Riley Whiting was in the clock business in Winchester and Winsted, Conn. from "1807" until his death in 1835. Shortly after his death the company he founded became the "Clark, Gilbert & Co.". This firm eventually became known as the "William L. Gilbert Clock Co." I believe the "1807" number is attributed to the beginning date of the forerunning company of the Gilbert Clock Co.. Some say it is a model number, perhaps so, but I think that would be in commemoration of the original date of Whiting's company.
