I wasn't Navy either and like Jim I enjoyed the photos. I worked with the Navy, Blue Anchor on the DMZ was great detachment of controllers, next was a repair ship off the coast of Cambodia, then a river boat picked me out of the water, a guy on that boat came over to AL from Crossett LA and he and his wife spent the week end with us. To me service was service I never thought much about branches, just people, My last 15 years was with all branches, I worked mostly alone or with a team or a few men we could borrow from any branch we could. I had lots of rides on the landing craft, lets see I think the LCM and LCU? are two most of the time and the one with the big tires,( The Army has those too) I am going fishing , thanks for the pictures.
G'Day, Gnewt
I hear you. When I was in, I spent a lot of time working with Marines, Coasties, and Airmen. Only Army I ever worked with were Corps of Engineers though.
I was stationed in Japan and worked in South Korea, Australia, Sumatra, The Philippines, East Timor, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Fiji, Myanmar, Russia, Iwo Jima, Iraq and the Strait of Malacca.
I think the landing craft with the big tires you are thinking of is a LARC. It isn't used too much anymore.
Were those photos from the Typhoon in Thailand ? I was supposed to get an underway period on the USS Frank Cable when that happened. Between the relief activity for the Typhoon and the fact that the San Francisco ran aground I never got to go. I wish I would have had an underway period as a reservist.
I wasnt Navy, but as a Marine I spent some time on Gators, LCAC's and, LCU's. THose were the best times in the Marines, sitting on Gators. Oh the places we got to see!! I miss it!!
Beautiful photos, but sad about Sumatra...but I am sure you guys got them up and running again!!!
We did not make it to the Air Show at Oceana yesterday, but did make it to the Oceanfront for the Beach Bash. Met the Blue Angels...Love those guys!!! My boys got their autographs a couple years back, but it was so windy and cold at the oceanfront, I did not want to stay around much longer. Got some photos. Wanted more, but next year!
I love paratroopers...my father was one for a small bit in the Army, until he was told with his eyesight, he couldn't do it any longer and became a cook! We use to watch the jumps at Fort Bragg on Saturdays. So, I have always had a love for men who feel compelled to jump from a perfectly good airplane! LOL
Here are some pics from last night....BLUE ANGELS! One pic is of my boys with the Blue Angel Public Affairs Officer...it was so crowded and cold and windy!
I was a bit nervous wondering if they were gonna' jump...the winds were very, very gusty...but I was so impressed with those guys and how they handled their chute. Some came in VERY FAST, but when they landed on target, the crowd cheered! Only one guy did not land on target....the wind carried him away and he landed further down the beach.
Today, we go to the Air Show, Oceana's 50th Anniversary of Air Shows!!!
