My hunting buddy and I are desperate enough to travel to Kentucky from Toronto Canada for a detecting weekend.
we intend on asking for permission at some plantations and such.
any suggestions would be great.
and how is the digging.
Thanks
Don, I am from Lexington and I haven't had much luck getting on the plantations.? Most are active horse farming operations and you'd think they spend $100 on every blade of grass.? Please don't let that stop you from asking though. There are some excellent old home sites and the digging is awesome.? There is a small town named Athens on the south side of Lexington (I75 South, Exit 104) that has yielded my best finds to date.
If you're willing to go an hour east of Lexington to the towns of Mt. Sterling and/or Owingsville you'd find some areas that folks actually encourge detecting.? I can hook you up with some of those if you're interested.? Good Civil War history all over Kentucky.? Olympian Springs (late 1700's resort) in Owingsville is an awesome place, acres and acres of land, it's private but I can get you on.
I wish you luck, sure a long way to travel for you.? Let me know if I can be of help.
Malone's of Lexington is the best steak house in town!!!! ($$)
