Going to start buying Quarters.

So, we all know that finding Quarters in the wild is nearly impossible, ( and I don't have time to become a member of the elite club of finding 1 in a box after searching umpteen boxes, lol) so i have decided to start buying at least 2 Silver Quarters a week for now on from my LCS. I would like to have a nice little pile of them and really don't know of another way to acquire them other than trying to buy them. I'm just looking to get them for junk Silver price, no Numismatic valued ones. Does anybody else here buy any every week or 2 also or every now and then? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought about just buying some here and there just to have some. HH, maverick.

I have never understood why so many people bash eBay and consistently use the term "feebay"

Having millions of people being able to see what your selling seems like a pretty fair trade for what the fees are. I have bought and sold there since 1998 and the way they have eliminated all the swampers from cheating and being cheated deserves a big thumbs up. Those early days of eBay were very sketchy.

As others have posted, if you think it is too steep with the fees then list on Craigslist and take your chances dealing with some really scary situations. Here in Des Moines, there were 7 cases of people being beaten and robbed of the items they were selling just this past month.

Here is my theory on Ebay Fees. THEY ARE WORTH IT!!! about 18 years ago, way before Ebay I bought an old house in Detroit There was a lot of cool stuff I did not want, and knew I could sell. I loaded the back of my pick up truck with a bunch of World War 2 stuff and sold it to a guy at a flee market for $150. There was also a complete dark room with tons of equipment. I trucked that stuff around to a bunch of photography studios and almost had to give it away. There was also a ton of vintage porn, (stills and negatives) I sold the whole lot for $350. Back then it was tough to find buyers. With Ebay you have the whole world to sell to, and people can search by category etc. I think the fees are a small price to pay to increase the number of potential buyers.

Back to the thread. I would look to by silver quarters from the Cash for Gold stores. I stopped by one once to see what they were paying for silver and the guy had a whole coffee can of quarters for sale. I bet you could get a better deal there than from a coin store.

Ah $150 for a bunch of WWII stuff.. uggggghh :-( Do you remember any of what you had? You can private message me, just curious because that was around the saving private ryan movie era when WWII militaria went through the roof price wise. Heck I bought one knife from someone in the Brightmoor neighborhood for $400 and that was the late 1990's..

Back to silver quarters.. I've found 60 Washington's. 19 teller tray, 40 roll and 1 in change jar. That's the only luck I've had with em. Now I buy them along with other junk silver every week. I love getting those bi centennial 40%er quarters. Even tho reselling isn't quite as easy their under melt usually.. :-)

I can bash Ebay because they and paypal have cheated me plenty of times. Sellers cheated me and Ebay wouldn't do anything about it even through they "protected" people against fraudant transactions. Then there is Paypal. I once sold a couple of items, nothing too expensive adding up to 24 bucks altogether. I went to transfer my funds from my paypal account to my checking account, paypal took more than half as a withdrawal payment. I disputed this with them and got nowhere. I found out later from co-workers that they had thousands taken from them via paypal for fees and business taxes. Ouch!!

But I am saving up money to go to the LCS and get some more quarters, or even some halves. I have stuck to junk silver because if I buy buillion from most of the LCSs around here they mark that up pretty much 4-5 dollars over spot. double ouch!

The World War 2 stuff: There were lot of stuff, No medals, knives or Nazi stuff. There were a bunch of signal flares, and photography equipment. (This guy was a photographer). So there were some cool cameras that slid on track, so when the plane is flying forward the camera moves backwards to take a clear picture. There was an intercom system, the kind the where the flyers say "Bombardier to pilot, bombardier to Pilot" The guy was able to get it working. There were also about 6 round windows that went on the bottom plane to take photos threw. The guy told later that he was able to get $100 a piece for them. (old war vets would install them in there houses as windows). Kinda like this one: squared circle - bomber window | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

We bought the house around 1991. This guy dealt with military items so he had a Rolodex of people he could sell the stuff to. My theory is we made a little money and the stuff was not tossed into a landfill.

Yes, San Francisco mint produced 40%ers that year as well as clad.. Not Denver and Philadelphia mints which only produced them in clad.. I can assure you there was silver bicentennials though..

I like the size of them. Not as big as a half dollar or as small as a dime. If I want to feel silver or hear its song, I get a roll of quarters to play around with. I like to know more often than not that for around 20 dollars I can go into a LCS and get 4 quarters at any time.

when i used to be a commercial parts pro for advance auto parts i had cash drawer keys. i would run the draws! i used to load up on any old coins and especially silver its how i built most of my collection. it was nuts one day, this old guy came in and paid almost soley in silver. i asked him if he knew what he had and he got all bitter and angry, i said ok..... locked down the drawer, people where throwing money to cash out on the silver, i let very little go and emptied my wallet and pockets on what i had on me. but normally would run a couple coins a week. the bank i go to the tellers run all the silver out of the trays that are open. i never hunted rolls but probably should start.

Yes, I have heard you can get a better deal on foreign Silver, I really like the American Quarters though, just to hard to find in the wild, if I want any I just figured I'd start buying a few here and there.

I got 3 40% and took them to the coinshop. they wouldn't even buy them. when I pushed the issue a bit (they were silver after all) the quote they gave me was a joke. They would take them for 2 bucks a piece. Give me a break. I rather keep them.

I do have an extra 800 dollars that I plan on putting back onto one of my loans. But first I plan on getting a box of halves and a couple of nickel boxes. Go through them. Dump them and then stick them back onto my loans.

Qwik update, I bought 6 Quarters today!

So, I just got back from the LCS with my son, I bought 6 Quarters and he bought 8 Dimes ( 2 Mercs and 6 Rosies) here's the picks of my Quaters. Spot price on these was 5.63 and he sold them to me for $6.00 each, I think it was a good price. The spot price on my sons Dimes was 2.25 and we bought those for $2.40 each, I'm pretty pleased with that, total was $43.00 for all. Also did a CWR run yesterday, scored 10 40's from 4 banks, more than I found in my 10 boxes I searched this week! HH, Maverick.
