Hey guys. I have a good buddy that has private property that butts up to this major Confederate gun manufacturing depot here in Macon, Ga. He and I are gonna be metal detecting our rear ends off tomorrow thru the weekend. His backyard is strewn with triggers and broken pieces of guns as well as ammo of that era. And that is just on top of the ground. From what I understand the depot was blown up by the Union soldiers under Sherman's authority. I will post pics of any and all treasures that we find. If yall have any input of the items that we should be aware of, please advise. I look forward to posting our finds. Wish me luck guys!

Have fun and good luck.HH.

must-have-pictures! Got 9 inches of snow here.

Awesome. We will anxiously awaiting the story of your hunt and lots of pics of the site and your finds.

Raided and blown up! Ought to be lots of goodies just from that.
Hope ya got extra help for all that digging.

Years ago, workers at a federal armory near Texarkana, Yea, where so many Garands were made, told me a tale of crews digging a foundation for a building extension.
They found tens of thousands of actions and other rifle parts including barrels.
They decided all these parts were mistakes made in production and buried to hide em.
Hope you find the goods.

THAT SHOULD BE ONE FUN HUNT! Bring all of it home so you can go through it and sort it out. And yes, we love picture, lots of pictures!

HI BOB!

Lucky Guy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you find anything in parts alone They would be worth HUGE bucks is serviceable

I,m sure you guys know more than I but always heard brass was donated to the cause and found its way to Macon for weapons making. An army style pistol frame would make my decade !
I passed through years ago and wondered what may have been melted but did not look into any sites or research.
Course with it being blown maybe some objects avoided fate of furnace?
Have a great hunt!

Have an awesome hunt, then take lots and lots of pictures, pleeze, pleeze, pleeze.

There's some great history in that area, Griswoldville was the first big stop on Sherman's scorched earth March to the Sea.

Todays big find. Can anyone help me identify it?

Sorry I cannot help identify it, but it is sure awesome. Can't remember seeing a button with a locomotive on it except on overall straps. But that looks too big for an overall button. Looking forward to an ID.
