I have a B. H. Lone star I've been using for two years. I've found 9 silver rings 1 stainless steel ring. I hunt in auto notch an dig almost all signals but still haven't found gold. Has anyone found gold (jewelry) with the lone star and what did it show up as on the screen.

Thanks for any help. GOD BLESS

I'm getting an LS in a day or two, and I can let you know how it reacts to gold.

But I can tell you this from 20 years swinging most major brand detectors: hunting in notch modes will DECREASE your chances of finding gold, and especially rings.

Its a sad fact that most decent gold rings conduct like drink can tabs. The range from nickels to zinc cents is the home of the gold ring... a hundred gazillion drink tabs. I've recovered rings all over this wide range. My best? Very close to a screw cap in conductivity.

Small rings and those with a lot of filigree will be found from nickel down through the foil range - again, a trash zone.

Fisher did a study some years ago and gold rings in the nickel range were just a small percentage of the overall number of actual rings recovered.

Bottom line, the notch mode is not the gold rings' friend.

Here is is a graphic from the study I mentioned:

161 ring finds analyzed, and only 9% were in the nickel range. The majority were in the tab and foil range - right where we set up our notch discrimination.

Good observation. I mean, what are they called?
"Metal detectors"....
My first detector was a cheap Radio Shack BFO unit and I found stuff with it.

You are an experienced operator and I'm not surprised the very basic Pioneer got you the goods.

5$ Good for you!

yep, you can't find it if it isn't there.
Rule #1 - Search where there is something to find.
