GOLD POCKET WATCH. 1880 IH 1917 wheat

It's been a while since I've posted. I finally got out today to do the hobby I love. It was a long day and I wasn't really digging anything cool. I decided to go back to one of my old hunts a piece a forest near an old church. My first did was the 1880 Indian head then the 1917 wheat penny. I was on my last few swings that I got I nice big hit. Absolutely amazing Elgin gold pocket watch. Obviously no dial and the front glass is gone. But I polished up beautiful. Thanks for looking. The pictures could be better.

Congrats on pulling those 3 nice keepers. I pulled my 1st gold this season and it was a pocket watch, but I believe yours is larger than mine.

There isn't any screw to remove the back. And I think your supposed to pop off the back. I'll be mad at myself if I mess it up. I think I will take it to a jeweler.

Great watch is it filled or 14k? I know my gramps had one that was 14k heavy and beautiful! Hopefully it's not filled!! Regardless it's still awesome!

Most have a screw back that is very hard to see... Take it to a jeweler and they will do it for you... good luck!

I have dug 8 pocket watches and no gold or any watch with the porcelain number disk still there...that watch is in amazing shape...congrats! I dug a Elgin and the serial number was on a metal piece inside the guts (half moon looking piece).

UPDATE. for those interested.. I took the watch to a jeweler today. Hugh let down . Lol. Not solid gold. He said heavy gold plated. I did a search of the serial number. Mfg 1903. It's still cool and I love it just the same.

Great find Tony.
When I fiund my gold watch someone told me to push on the back. If its flexible it real gold if it is stiff its fake.. he was right. My was gold filled..

my watch guy said the exact same thing, and then said it was plated. I disagreed then felt like a butt when I found out he was right, haha.

That's still a beautiful watch. And it certainly looks like it can be repaired. This thread inspired me to go to Elgin's website... They still do repairs.

Dude that is still an amazing fun. If it wasn't too expensive to get fixed I would totally get it repaired and use it. That would make for a nice family heirloom
