It was a good day at the beach this morning even though it was overcast and trying to rain. It never did. Sprinkled a little but never rained. I got in the water and hit a penny right off. My next hit was a ring! Yippee! My first ring in the water. It was all black and I suspected it might be silver. ALL RIGHT!

I had several hits and some were quarters but one of them turned out not to be a quarter but a Sacajewa Dollar. Better and better.

I went up on the dry sand - well it was supposed to be dry but was damp. Near the kids playground I found another dollar! This time it was not all black and I could tell it was a dollar. I like this!

On the way home I stopped in at a hardware store and asked about a good silver cleaner (for the ring) The guy said he uses Tarnex on coins and it did a good job. I was afraid it might damage the ring but he didn't think so. I should have waited and asked the pros on T-net. It did ruin the ring. It is definitely a silver ring. It has 925 stamped on the inside but the Tarnex ruined it. RATS! If only I had not been in a hurry to get it cleaned.

So I am willing to learn guys n gals.... how do I clean a black silver ring so it shines brightly again without ruining it?

All in all $2.83 in clad and a silver ring were my take this morning and I love it!

I make jewelry and when I am rushing to get ready for a show, I use the liquid tarnex on my sterling silver, but, I dip it fast, in and out, rinse with cold water and dry it...however your ring is not ruined... did you leave it too long in the tarnex? on a ring like that use a toothbrush dipped in the tarnex and rinse.. it may take a while of doing this since its so blackened..but you can also use tooth paste too... now to to get it more shiney, use a jewelers cleaning cloth it will shine it rite back up to looking brand new.. thats what I do.. and big time congrats too lady..

After you clean it use a silver cloth on it you can buy them at walmart real cheap and it will look like new when your done. frogsmile

Awesome Mumszie - I'am happy for you - isn't it hard to do the happy dance in the water, but you just
can't wait to get out. I use this stuff called E Z EST coin and silver cleaner and you can leave stuff in
it for awhile but alot of the time all you have to do is just dip it in and waalaa it clean - Cavedweller

Here's what I use to clean silver rings.

Mumszie - You helped me out, now I'll help you. The simplest thing to clean silver rings and such with is good old 'toothpaste'. Yup, it really works. Dab a bit between fingers and thumb, insert item, move fingers for a bit, rinse and dry.

You'll be amazed at how well this works. The silver ring you see in my avatar was cleaned that way and it doesn't take long at all. Not only does it leave your silver with a nice shine, it's also minty fresh when your done.

Way to go, a beautiful ring, but be careful......Water hunting is very addictive.....

Try this to clean silver, it works wonders very quickly and will not damage it.

Aluminum Foil, Baking Soda, and Salt:

Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of a pan, add 2-3 inches of water, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, and bring to a boil. Add silver pieces, boil 2-3 minutes, making sure the water covers the silver pieces. Remove silver, rinse, dry, and buff with a soft cloth. This method cleans the design and crevices of silver pieces.
