cleaning gold from heavily stained and tarnished to just making fresh drops look like new. years ago i got some nice polishing clothes, really took the stain and black off the gold. then i washed them. they dont work the same.. and of course now i cant find the same brand or type of cloth again. is there a good polish. a trick. how do you guys deal with all types or stages of getting gold back to showroom quality.

really would like a polish or cream that works like that stuff did 20 years ago. typical it worked so good they quit making it

For gold, I dunk them in Ezest jewelry cleaner, then rub them with baking soda, and then rinse. Works pretty good for other metals too.

Leave it to mom, those cleaned up rings look "mag" nifiscent.

The ring on the lower right of the pic gave me a flashback. Many years ago, back in my dirt digging coinshooting days, I was hunting the backyard of an old rowhome. Got a signal and pulled out a metal circular object that looked like the dirty version of your 1901 ring. It was covered in dirt, but to my eyes back then, it didn't scream "ring". It was very wide for a typical ring, and the diameter was so small that I could just get it on my pinky finger but not over my knuckle, so I threw it in my pouch.

I remember initially thinking it was probably some type of brass coupler that a plumber would use to connect 2 pipes together. But when I got home & cleaned it up, I got a nice surprise when I saw 14K inside the band. So, it was a gold ring, but since the diameter was so small, I assume it was probably for a child or petite woman. But since it was so wide & small, it didn't register as a ring in my mind, until I saw that 14K mark. I'll have to dig it out from my treasure stash and take another look.

Joe, you're the King of old gold, so to your knowledge, were wider rings a thing back in the early days?
