Some of you may have seen my last post of the Tiffany fork find at Great Gatsby mansion a few weeks ago. I have pounded this place for a year and a half with a ATpro, CTX 3030, Marko Multi Kruzer and now for the last 6 weeks with a Equinox 800. I have found many great finds there with all the listed detectors. But the finds were coming slow with many days just being scunked. This past week I have seamed to have become one with the Nox 800 and can really read and hear what it is telling me and it has brought the place back to life. I knew the place had more to give as I have found couple large cents, buttons and relics from the early 1800's, and a crispy trashed early readable 1780 Spanish 1/2 reale that crumbled in my hand, looked like it had been in a really hot fire. Not the bucket lister I was hoping for.
I always tell myself there has to be more Spanish here.
It was said that they decided to build the mansion here when a Spanish coin was found at the site.
Today I went out there on the front lawn of the mansion in the blazing sun not expecting to much action, but always hoping.
First target dug was a kinda iffy 19-21, but nice mid high tone, turned out to be a to my surprise a
1813 Nova Scotia half penny token, 10" down. Really cool sailing ship on the front and the back says (pure copper preferable to paper)
I was a happy camper.
Then about ten feet away I get a really sweet high tone reading 19-22 with the depth gage pinned. I don't know I had a good feeling about it from the sound and the depth. Dug a wide deep plug and still had to go down more at about 11" out pops the shinny. I could see right from the start that it was a old silver. I put my glasses on and pick it up. OMG I have finally found one! A Spanish 1 Reale. The first thing I did was pop it in my mouth to get it good and wet to get the dirt off.
Now I was a really happy camper
Bucket lister for me. 1773 Spanish 1 Reale (Guatemala mint)
I knew there was Spanish there. I have walked over this spot many times.
Only when I became one with my NOX 800 did I find it.
Also found a few days before a KING George 3rd half penny
Here are the finds, I have not been bringing my camera on the hunts lately as it's just been to damm hot and when I did I found nothing...lol
