Good Deal?

Local pawn shop has several boxes of halves and dollars....most look anywhere from XF to higher AU. He's asking about $10 apiece. Curious to know if that is a good price for franks?! What about Morgans in about the same grade level, good price to pay for them with the current market? Been doing the CRH but would like to get into the "purchasing" side of coins. I would not pay more than $7.75 for 90% halves.

It's a case of supply vs demand. My local shop never lets their 90% get cold, and moves it for 16 X face.
It's still scarce at times.

$10 for a common Franklin may be considered fair for some.

I just checked Provident Metals and Franklins are about $8.20 ea.

Bad price on Halves. About $3 over spot.
Great price if the Cartwheels are real U.S.ofA. 90% legal tender (even if cleaned and they are only worth melt). About $5 under spot.

I am kinda puzzled how he sells a 90% half dollar or a 90% dollar at the same price. Technically the dollar should be demanding at least twice the price of a half dollar since the face value is 2x the price and the metal content is 2.14x greater.

No, I was asking what a dollar SHOULD go for....or what would be a good price to pay for a Morgan or peace. He has several around 28~30 bux. And do you guys use provident metals as a "place" to check what current market pricing should be around? Thanks all!

I bought some Morgan dollars for $17.10 a pop a month ago.

I would say $7 ish for halves and less then $22 for dollars.

everyone is all about paying around $7 for halves....but wouldn't that be only "junk" halves since that is right around melt value? The halves that I spoke of were in very nice condition and in coin holders at the local pawn shop. Same with the dollars...they weren't loose halves in poor condition. If I can get them for near melt...that would be great! But I doubt that will happen....who knows!

Franklin Half Dollar Value Tied to Condition

I have found this site to be pretty accurate with alot of their values - but cross check with ebay sold listing prices. That having been said, i wouldnt pay much of a premium for any Franklin unless maybe it was a late 40's or early 50's in uncirculated condition.

Pawn shops are ment to be bartered with and they probably didn't even pay melt when they bought them
