Hadn't been out in weeks and had 3 hours this week so I hit a very trashy part of the battlefield. But came away VERY happy. Two New York Cuff buttons, a 3-ringer, round ball, two colt pistol bullets from the same hole, an 1860 penny and a bullet in wood. The bullet in wood was just barely below the mulch line under a big pine. So shocked it survived so shallow. Would have thought it would be rotten, but I had a heck of a time splitting it. Can't tell what kind of bullet. Maybe enfield. Too damaged from impact.

Nice finds.. Those bullets and buttons are in very nice shape... Congrats and thanks for sharing..

Thanks Pong. The penny is in terrible shape, but the buttons (backs too) are totally undamaged, except for corrosion.

NICE FINDS!!! I have seen one part of a 2 by 6 a guy had that had a musket ball in it. He bought it from home depot and cut the spot out thinking it was a knot and then realized there was something in the wood. After cracking it apart he discovered it was about a 70 caliber round ball!!! I have never seen anything like that since till this post AWESOME FIND!!!

Man! Wouldn't you love to know the story of that Home Depot find!! What state the lumber was cut in . . . what battlefield . . . WOW. That is a COOL story. I have found a "few" bullets in wood, not many, over the years. They survive better in wet environments. I've been told a bullet was hot out of the gun, and it heated the sap when it struck the tree. That helped the bullet to essentially make a "man made knot" which jives with your HD story. So I've found (in a swamp) what looked to be a knot but had a bullet in it. Here are some others in wood I've found (or my dad found)
