I had not detected since Sunday. The temps had dropped to the teens and the ground was frozen. Today the high temp hit the mid 40's knowing the areas I can go to after work were most likely still frozen I put on my hip waders and headed for the water. The lake was froze near the shore, but the rest was open water. Knowing the extended forecast called for frigid temps I knew this may be my last chance until spring. I scooped a memorial cent than a nickel signal, but the coin was not a nickel. It turned out to be a fatty Indian head cent 1863. I was happy at that point, but the day got better when I saw my first gold of the year, a 14K gold band in the scoop. Glad I decided to get out that one last time until spring.
