Got 3 boxes of Pennies from 1979!!! with PICS of Rolls

Went to a bank today and the teller told me he had some guy bring in 3 boxes of pennies that were old. I asked due to the large quantity whether they were dumped by someone (I was sceptical whether they were all zincolns). He told me that they were brought in by a guy that bought a house and found 3 boxes of pennies by the water heater. The boxes were old alright and the rolls too. Two of the boxes had rolls that were crimp wrapped and old. One of the boxes was date stamped Sept 23, 1979! I've been busy of late and will travel out of town next week so I don't have much time to CRH this week. I opened one roll and yep, they were all pre-1979 and had a corroded 1934 wheat in that roll. It would be interesting to see how these boxes turn out. This would answer a question how CRHing would be in 1979 for pennies! Will post results later this week. Sorry got other stuff to do first.

I told the teller guy that the 3 boxes were $40 in profit due to all copper. He told me that he probably would've bought them. I probably shouldn't mention the $40 in profit so now he'll probably keep all copper pennies boxes but I am interested in what these boxes can bring and what types and how many wheats could be inside. I thought about just putting them up for sale on Feebay as sealed rolls from 1979 but I thought it would be better to just go through them. Believe me the boxes and rolls definitely do look old.

At what price did a $10 roll of dimes sell ?

The dime rolls cost me $5 each, and I listed them at $9.99 each Buy-It-Now. I didn't know that FeeBay raised their fees so high since I last sold on there. Then you have to add in the PayPal fees, packing costs and other expenses to getting them to the post office. The shipping charge was also higher than I quoted for S&H, so lost money there as well. I regret listing them now, the hassles are just not worth it to me. I guess sellers these days need to have an eBay store and turn over quantity in order to turn a profit. Not my goal in life for sure. I prefer to spend my time doing what I enjoy, like sleeping late and CRH'ing.

I know all too well about the problems of Feebay/Greedbay. I wish there was a cheap alternative but nothing has been able to take its place.

DAMN!! Those are nice. I'd be cherry-picking the hell out of them boxes. I'd definately be checking all the 1982's with small date for the double die reverse, since it was only discovered a couple years ago. You'll probably be able to come up with a few varieties of the 1972 DDO too. If you're interested in selling a box, send me a PM and we can discuss a price.

I'm going to be very these next two weeks.. not much time to CRH but I plan to go through them myself. There wouldn't be any 1982's here. It's all 1979 or before. I will post the result when I have the time to go through all of them.
