Managed to stick to it in the heat today and found another state button today and some lead and shell frags to go with it. This is my first GA button
and I still can't believe I found it, it was surrounded by modern nails and old fence wire, but there it was in the hole....WOW that made my day!!!

WOW!! That looks like the variation GA 4 in Albert's book. The letter N is omitted in the word MODERATION. You can still read the word on the right column. Can you get a backmark?

I can't make out the back mark, there is something there but I can't read it. What are the different back marks it could be maybe I can narrow it down.
Thanks for the info!

Were you lucky enough for the shank to be intact? Awesome button!

No the shank is missing and the back is pushed in some but the front appears to have the original shape.

Looks like a pretty good hunt this time of year and the GA button really topped it off.

It will be either "Steele & Johnson" or "Horstmann & Alien/ NY"
The Horstmann mark has an inner circle of rays.
