DigginGirl and I got out today for awhile. Warmer, but clouding up. We hit the Senseny Road Elementary School right outside of Winchester. Big playground with 4 tot lots on it. Started at the back one. Found some things then this was in the woodchips looking up at me:

I bout had a nervous breakdown!!!! Upon picking it up there was no weight to it. It's playmoney. On the back says Confederate States of America. Oh well. We found $2.55 in change. I had to earn that, alot of nickles and dimes. My favorite area to hunt there is between the 2 larger tot lots. Big area, dirt, but it was frozen. Found some trinkets also, little heart charm, little wire bracelet and two, count em, two zipper pulls. :D

Got some fresh air and exercise. Hoping to get out again tomorrow.

On the back says Confederate States of America.

Wait, What?!

Does it say 'Play' or 'Copy' on it??? The CSA Made their own version of these coins, too. VERY RARE!

I'm sure it's a toy. Here's the back.

Okay.. :)

If you look on the reverse side, just under the "ATE" in Confederate, you'll see "COPY"...

I've got the same exact 'coin' from Ft. Sumter's Gift Shop ;D

heart attack c p r time ;D :D ;D

What sick twisted person would create a coin like that? That's just not right. ;) I would have had a heart attack too.

on the real 1861 confederate silver half dollar coin (only 500 or so were made) they planed off the normal us mint rear seal and "restruck" it with the confederate rear seal -- it was done in the new orleans mint (my birth city) and they are rare beyond belief and thus worth a huge amount of money -- your is a base metal "copy" coin sold as a sovenior at fort sumter thus the word copy on it as required by law to prevent folks from trying to pass it off as the real deal -- Ivan

Wow. I would have had a heart attack too. If you think about it, its possible some kid could have raided his rich daddy's collection for show and tell. If that coin were the real deal it would be almost priceless. There are only four originals known and one sold at Stacks Rare Coin auction in Oct. '03 for $632,500.00. Some restrikes were made also and a restrike (not a copy) in that condition would be worth a little more than six thousand.

Yeah, I would've had to a take time out and sit down on that one. ;D

Most of the time copies sound like junk. I have found copies of Reales. I knew before I dug that they were junk.

DM, sorry it wasn't the real McCoy! I hope you find a big treasure on your next hunt.
