Got me a "screamin eagle" today

Was sitting around the house today and wasn't doing much, so I decided to get out for a couple of hours, as "old mother nature" isn't going to allow it for much longer. Decided to go check out a baseball field next to a major highway near home, and wasn't really expecting to find much. Was basicly only clad shooting anyway.

Arrived at the field, and after about five minutes, I got my first signal. Turned out to be a 1945 wheatie. A pleasant surprise indeed. It took about 20 minutes to do the area behind the backstop, and only found a little clad, so went out to the outfield.

Man do I like my "Big Foot" coil in large open areas. The only draw back that I have with the coil is the fact that a silver coin really doesn't register as a silver coin. A dime registers as a dime, same with a quarter. I can't even tell if there is a higher pitch on silver or clad. But, that's a minor problem.

Was going along great when all of a sudden the detector starts screaming at me. It kept jumping between a penny and a half, and kept telling me that it was at about 6 inches. I just knew that it was probably silver, so I cut an extra large plug the depth of my Lesche knife and pulled out the plug. Laying in the dirt looking up at me was this large silver coin. I thought that I had finally found another walking liberty. Cleaned some of the dirt off of it, and was surprised to see a eagle looking back at me.

Turns out, what I had found was a German 5 Deutsche Mark coin. Checked the old internet, and found that it was, indeed, a silver coin. Turned out to be an excellent day.

Hope everyone else had a good day too. Keep swinging.

That coin pose is unreal. I bet you were scratching your head over that one when you saw it. I had something like that happen a few years ago. I got a deep 50 cent signal and dug and dug to about 9 inches and saw the edge of a coin. I knew it was a half and probably older than a Walker. Pulled it out and noticed the eagle had a snake in his talons. I was really wondering till I flipped it over and realized it was from Mexico. It was still pretty neat and fairly old. Thanks for posting.

Been there and done that. :icon_thumleft: One of the first foreign coins that I dug was a 50 Centavos coin from Mexico. Like yours, it had that eagle with the snake in its' mouth. Large like a half, only made out of copper instead of silver. Still, and interesting dig. Thanks for the comments.

Thanks, I used to live in Omaha once too. Was there for about 7 years. It's grown so much now, that you wouldn't recognise the place anymore..
