DiggerBug and I have finally got permission to hunt an old site that we have been gazing at for months. Credit for permission goes to DiggerBug. She knew somebody, that knew somebody and once the phone call was made....no problem. We both knew that this site has been hunted hundreds of times since the 60's. Was told a couple of months ago that literally folks would come out by the bus loads to hunt it. The owner said, "You ain't gonna find anything, but knock yourselves out." ;D This is a HUGE place with multiple sites to hunt. Most of the older homesites are sitting covered in ivy. (time for the snake chaps to come out) ;) I spent most of my time at one site that had burned (it has no ivy!) and there were nails everywhere, but was able to find a few keepers for the day. Lisa spent most of her time exploring and taking pictures. She looked like a kid in a candy store! :D We both had fun and are planning to go back tomorrow.

Keepers were....

1889 Indian penny
3 ringer bullet
little ring (maybe copper)?
reed
spoons..I don't know what the deal is with me finding all this silverware this month! :P
lipstick
change

Nana :)

This is where we hunted first...tomorrow will be the ivy site...

Congratulations on your finds. You are off to a great start this year......

Nice finds Nana! Those complete harmonica reeds are hard to get, most of mine are in pieces. Tsgman

WTG Nana......there is always something to find and if you decide that place is too big for you and Bug let me know I'll be there in a flash lol

Great Finds, Nana.

I found a spoon just like that. It should say "COIN" on the neck. This is what Sterling was called in the mid 1800's. I did some research on the one I found last summer, made by S&E Roberts of Trenton NJ.

GREAT FINDS! WTG!

Here is a picture of my spoon again.

That is a gorgeous site to hunt. Don't forget your grid pattern!! ::) :P

Hey Nana............Wow!! That looks like a great place to hunt. Looking at the size of the property, you should find plenty of nice relics their. HH

Nice finds nana!Look around for downed trees and run your coil under them, alot of people miss stuff in heavily hunted areas under downed trees, too hard to get at it,I found a barber quarter this way.Being spring you may also have access to some thickets that would be impossible to get at later in the year.WTG!! Great IH Nana. I would LOVE to find an IH that is in that shape. Seems all the ones I dig are nearly eaten away with corrosion!

Looks like a great old area to hunt.

Nana, your story reminds of a time I stopped to hunt a small town park. The caretaker told me it was a waste of time but go ahead. He told me how hundreds of people hunted it on a regular basis. Even the entire detecting club for that region hunted it.

I hunted it several times and took hundreds of coins from that "hunted out" park. Some of the best Barber dimes I've ever dug came from that site. I found my first real gold ring there and dug a pan full of indianheads. I'll bet if I went back there today I'd still dig a silver or two.

But there are sites that are difficult hunting due to THers who knew what they were doing. I know some who hunt and it's almost useless to even go to those sites after they've hit them. But those people are like 1 in 200. Most people just dig pulltabs, foil, and modern coins (if that).

This site you have here looks like a dream place. You can be thankful for the heavy traffic before you. They probably removed most of the target masking trash for you. I'm always thrilled when I hear that others hit a site before me.

It will be exciting to see what you dig up next.

Great finds so far!
