Hello Everyone,

Well, it doesn't happen that often, but I wasn't able to find a silver coin today on one of my hunts.

I ended the day with 20 wheats, a .925 band, and a gold earring with 12 (2 missing) rubies on it.

I couldn't believe when I dug my last wheatie of the day from Griffith Park, I saw a '22 on the wheat. Out of over 1200 wheats, this was my first '22. And to top it off, it doesn't have a mint mark. PCGS says it's quite rare. Unfortunately, it's got pimples all over it, so it isn't worth the "big bucks". Other wheats I dug from the very same location did not have the zits on it, but this one did.....

Oh well, that's detecting. I was still quite "lucky" to find this coin.

It's strange for me to make a post with no silver coins; I think this is my first, but I felt I should let everyone get to see the '22 wheat.

Thanks for looking,
CAPTN SE
Dan

Bummer about the 22! And no silver with twenty wheats? Strange day, but it has to be there somewhere. Good luck next time out.

Congrats on the 22 wheat. Nice silver ring too. Great day for you!

That 22 Plain (actually the Philadelphia mint did not produce any pennies that year) is a 22 no "d" wheatie. Apparently a portion of the die containing the d for Denver mint mark was getting clogged on a regular basis and a number of 22 pennies were released from the mint.

That is a highly collectible coin. $545 in G condition but I'm sure you can get half that at the Long Beach Convention Center coin show...

Shoot.. I wouldn't say you were skunk... I'd rather have a 22 plain cent than any old worn Mercury (except the 16D).

I sold my completed set of circulated Mercuries (minus th 16D) for less than $160 a couple of months ago!!

So... I think you hit it big! Even the complete set of silver rosies is going for $50.

I'd rather hit an early key date wheat anyday over a silver rosie.

Next on your hit list - 09-S VDB!

Hope your good fortune continues!!!!

Pimples or not, I'd take it. That is officially a KEY date, even beat up like that, it's probably worth some money. I am dreaming of the day I get to dig one of those, they are officially more rare than an "S" VDB.

That sounds like a really good huntin' site... Congrats on the 22....
Keep safe...

I'd be happy to get some silver. LOL
or the wheats for that matter ;D

Keep digging

Great find on the 22 plain wheat Captn. There are million of collectors not there needing that penny to complete their. With 180 million collectors today, that coin just keep going up in any condition. That a true treasure find.
