Gotta Bullet Need Help !!!!!

Hey folks, my good buddy the (retarted) ReTired....Police Chief, found a bullet the other day, it is way bigger than the .58 caliber I have, and it looks to have a nose cast and it has a cone cavity, antone know anything about this I am sending a pic. Thanks....SemoPreacher

Looks like a cast lead bullet. You would have to get the diameter for a better guess as to what type of gun shot it, time period, etc...

John, Thanks for the information...as soon as we can we will measure it for more accurate details. The top has been drilled or maybe where a screw was screwed into it to remove it from a barrell. It is hollow, with a cone, couldn't find any markings, but there is a lot of oxidation again thanks, Semopreacher

If its bigger than a .58 caliber then it could be a .69 caliber. They were used in the Civil War just not quite as popular as the .58. If its been drilled/screwed into that could have possibly been done by a worm. A worm looks kinda like a cork screw and attaches to a ram rod. Its used to pull out lodged bullets.

Just place the bullet on a ruler on the 10mm mark and see how wide it is in mm. Convert this to decimal inches (use an online converter) and this is your caliber.

69 cal 3 ringer --- if pulled it would have nose damage -- they often have a hollow base area --- photo of nose and base would help lots

We measured the bullet it shows nearly .700" so I am guessing a 69 cal. mini ball it is really patinated alot, we can't find any marks inside the cone area, I am sending another pic, but what we are really interested in is to indentify the maker, or wheter or not it is union made or confedrate made. According to James E. Thomas / Dean S. Thoomas Bullets and Cartridges handbook, on page 45, it shows a pic similar to our bullet # 165 C except it is in .58 cal., we woud like to verify maker, so any help is good help, thanks you all, semopreacher

most likely a 69 cal mini ball type --- used by both sides but more heavily used by the southern soldiers -- unless it has a very unusual type base marking finding the "exact" maker will be very very hard as their quite similar looking --- one to another --- its a very "standardized" type design
