I asked the farmer for permission to hunt an old schoolhouse just like this not far from Rockford, Mi.
Found a lot of coins, pieces of jewelry, relics, etc...

Around the third time out there I was shocked to see the property. Someone had snuck on and left around
40 huge holes all over the property. I spent an hour filling the holes back in and left totally disgusted
with the lazy bastard who couldn't take the 10 seconds or so to fill his holes back in.

How much property is actually with the school? If its like one acre or a half...search the surrounding area...with permission of course...

That place looks good. I hope someone get a chance to dig it. There was an old school building near my that was built in the 1880s. I used to ride my bike there and hunt it with my kit detector and then my metrotech. I dug a ton of coins out of that place. The place is goen now. i never got to hunit with a bad ground machine

I believe that school was moved there from a spot somewhere nearby if I remember correctly.It is on the Calderone-Curran Ranch. the school was moved there in the early 70's. C-C wanted to tear it down but the local historical people put a stop to it and it was moved to it's present location and it is a small museum. goldie

Thanx for that info Goldie, I did notice that the block foundation looked newer than the school itself. Makes sense now. ffd

That school was NOT "moved" imo...

Look at the foundation - it's not new/er "block"... It's 1910's/20s block (the earlist form of "block") known to mankind in MI besides the granite type of the late 1800s/turn of the century which replaced fieldstone of the earlier decades (1870s and before).

I'd bet $$ in that - that is the original place/grounds for that school (mark my words) because when they do move one - they NEVER take the original block/foundation with them and then rebuild with it (and that is/has the original block as pictured).

Also - consider the fact that it's a "museum" as someone stated here - which means - if the state owns it or a historical society - it's totally off limits to detecting no matter what because it's a historical landmark and registered as such on the MI registry once it becomes a museum.

Anyone caught detecting a property as such is subject to HUGE fines, ALL detecting equipment confiscation and imprisonment up to 1 yr according to MI law.

Do your homework before stepping foot on that ground.

LOOK at the foundation - it's NOT new/er "block"... It's 1910's/teens/20s block (the earlist form of "block") known to mankind in MI besides the granite type of the late 1800s/turn of the century which replaced fieldstone of the earlier decades (1880s and before).

That most certainly is the original place/grounds for that school (mark my words) because when they do move one - they NEVER take the original block/foundation with them and then rebuild with it (guaranteed).

Stay away from it if you're "smart"...

I never considered that LW, the wood structure itself looked to be about late 1800's, maybe the locals know something we don't. I'm sure that place has been "night hawked" in the past.
Is this place on a registry? I can't seem to locate it, it's up for sale. ffd

it's a teens/1920s school house which matches the foundation type of that time period

the foundation is always your key to "age" 1st and foremost UNless a building has been moved and rebuilt on a new foundation (the brick chimmney is another clue to the age of this structure)

I'm 100% sure it's been pounded to death by many in past decades and as you say (night hawked) in the recent past

if it's up for sale - it's most likely not on a registry yet

I'm confused...I have permission to detect a centennial farm, it's on the registry and has a marker erected. The owners of the property (also descendants of the home builder) have given me permission. Is it legal to detect there

I have hunted this places several times not much was there. I have spoke to the owner a couple times as I only live a couple minutes from this school. This school was moved it actually sat out were 94 currently passes by. He told me when they built 94 they relocated the school.
