I have this Victorian gate weight that reads "greenwood pipe co. cin. o."
My question is who owned greenwood pipe co.?, Was it miles greenwood that owned eagle iron works.?
I can find some reference to the company but nothing on who owned it.

I think the Greenwood Pipe and Eagle Iron Works were both run by Miles Greenwood.

Here is an 1870 listing from the Cincinnati directory - there is no listing for the Eagle Iron Works in this directory but this image of the works shows it at the same adderess.

Thanks bramblefind, I had seen that directory listed in search but couldn't get it opened on my phone.

I think it is a weight for a relief valve. Before modern regulators steam, water, air etc used a valve with a lever and weight. The Best Friend railroad engine blew up because the engineer tied the lever up to get more speed? Tony

In highschool I was in the FFA and our instructor would take us on field trips. We'd go to dairy producers to factories. We went once to the Eagle Iron works plant in Des Moines, Iowa. It was pretty interesting. I thought the pattern makers were most interesting. They would handcraft large wooden pattern pieces for rock crusher parts. I can't imagine things are done that way anymore these days with computer technology. I also remember the drafting room that had several draftsman working on large draft tables making drawings of all the various parts to be casted. So much has changed in the techniques of manufacturing these days when a designer sends a computer aided drawing to a prototype creating machine.

I'll look into that Tony, I've had it for 40years was told it was a buggy weight. And might have been used as one by my grand parents. But sure matches gate weights even the threaded hook. Except no gate weight I've seen had maker marks.
