Many of you guys may have this map ( Coffman atlas ) , but for those that do not have it here is a copy of a most interesting area . I still maintain that Florida's West coast is just as interesting as the East coast . Besides there are fewer divers there ! I hope that some of you may find this interesting . Cornelius

Coffman states . Under no. 57 . Unidentified Schooner with 5 million in coins . 18 ft deep . Year 1830 . Sumannee river . I this the same wreck that I discovered John ? 18 ft deep couls well be the same depth I found my wreck . Remember that there are thre reefs in front of the mouth of the Suwannee river . Could be the same wreck and than again it doae not necessarily be the same . The guns I saw may have been moved from the wreck by my ,, texas Friends ,, . Or were they ? there is talk of 5 million in gold payment by the US govt sent upon a schooner that was bound for havana , cuba - a under the table secert "cash" payoff to the spanish for florida (done this way to prevent the french and english from getting pissed off * that the spanish were getting paid by america for florida) reportedly it was lost at sea in 1820 off / near the suwannee river mouth / delta area in a bad storm / hurricane .

be warned ahead of time --the US grubbermint WILL claim ALL of this gold as US GOVT PROPERTY , if one is foolish enough to "find it" and word gets out about it. so its or

Where was that schooner coming from? There was no mint in New Orleans at that time, and I doubt there was $5 million in gold there either.

the money was from up north * placed aboard ship in new orleans for "transport / reciept by the spanish in cuba"-- there were 2 vessels * one military (providing security against robbery) and the actual "transport vessel"-- the money was upon the transport vessel * a bad storm / hurricane struck them -- the transport vessel was wrecked , the security vessel survived the ordeal * ---the records of the event are from the "security vessel" records --one can find them if one but knows how and where to look for them -- thats I all will say at this time.

the transfer of florida from spain to us hands was delayed due to this "event" * on paper to gain florida the US paid off spanish debts owed by spain to "us land holders" that had claims against spain for damages done by people in florida that spain had little to no effective control of --(basically while spain had "title" to florida --as a govt, it was not effectively controlling it , and as the legal govt of the area spain was supposed to "control" her subjects and not having them raiding nearby american lands .--thus she was legally liable for the damage her "subjects" caused)-- to sweeten the deal a under the table deal was done as spain badly needed "cash" money -- the US would on paper settle the claims against spain ( and say to the french and english --see we gave spain no "cash" money --we just paid our own citizens claims due to them by spain so as to not PO the french and english by "paying" spain cash money -- and of course paying spain some "under the table" additional cash to secure florida. good ole politics 101.

Why wouldn't they just put the money on the military vessel? If it did sink in just 18' of water then the gold was probably salvaged. I've heard the same kind of story about the Louisiana Purchase money, but that turned out to be false.

the transport vessel was "spanish"-- the security vessel however was US * however the money was not considered to be "offically" turned over until it reached cuba * and signed for .

it was placed in spanish custody in new new orleans * and placed upon the spanish transport vessel * the spanish transport vessel was to be "escorted" to cuba by the america vessel --for security purposes .

once in cuba the the spanish officals would come onboard the transport vessel --inspect the funds , and sign the legal paperwork transfering florida from spanish to american control , the escort vessel would then return with the "paper work" to the USA

that is the way the mission was supposed to work out.

How can anyone know what an unidentified vessel was carrying or what year it sank? I've found this same trend in many of the old treasure books and have always wondered how this makes sense.

It sometime happens that it is known that a certain ship is carrying a certain cargo . The name of the ship was of minor interest and was soon forgotten . That is why sometimes the cargo is remembered while the name is lost by the story tellers . Cornelius

oh the transport vessel has a "name" as did the us naval "security" escort vessel --the escort vessel's "report" * is how a "offical" record of the event survives -- -- one but has to know where to look to read about -- and its not so easy to find it either , since it was basically a "secert mission" in its day. something the US GOVT did not want france or england to find out about , the fact they were paying CASH MONEY TO SPAIN - money that might fund spanish wars against britain or france--not good for relations with them.

no I not telling the "details" about exactly where to find such valuible information without "payment" for my research efforts . --sorry folks --some info is "money info"-- and this is some of it.

and for those who think --if he knows akll about it , then why doesn't he get it himself ?-- answer -- because I'm smart

being the cargo is US GOVT GOLD -the minute you find and try to "claim" the wreck legally --the US GOVT WILL STEP IN AND SAY MINE --ITS ALL MINE --US GOVT GOLD BACK OFF !!!-- so you can not "legally" claim it --which only leaves "illegal" harvesting of the wreck * which can lead to jail time for "illegally" disturbing the wrecksite , theft of govt funds, failure to declare money found tax wize and a host of other "legal" problems --non of which I desire to be part of --think of knowing the "details" of this wreck as --having the combination to a bank vault * yes you can now "open it' and get to the money --but its still illegal to do so.......

so I'm willing to sell the "combination" to others for cash "up front" --but the safe cracking ( actual recovery of gold from the vessel) is their deal alone --I'm not going to be any part of it

great -- I know the vessel exist * the records say so - if you got to her --sssshhh --tell no one the GRUBBERMINT is everywhere.

if one finds such a vessel as this (hauling govt funds--that the US govt can and will try to claim as theirs) the best thing one can do is quietly enjoy the money and say NOTHING about it publicly .

knowing the "details" --ships name, commanders and such can allow one to find the old records that will often lead to the vessels exact location rather than the "general area" that passed down word of mouth stories do.

the records detail the cargo carried * --its the cargo --the gold that pays the bills. ps its 5 million in 1820 * gold value ($22 per oz) -- currently $1542 per oz which means its about 70 times more or so in value -- more like 350 million in todays money .

it only says --loosely paraphrazed --- gold to the value of 5 million -- it does not spell out the type or manner of it as to being coin , bars or what have you ---so its highly possible it was a mixture of coins , bars and such.

bottom line "legally"speaking its either going to be claimed by the US govt --as non delivered US govt funds for payment of florida --or-- Spain will step in claiming it as lost Spanish govt funds lost "in route" to cuba --either way --GRUBBERMINT FUNDS * - totally illegal to try to harvest . (thats why I did not try to go after it ) no legal way to get to it , and "keep it". --thus nothing but trouble * since somewhere at some time somebodys --gotta blab about "finding it" -- it seems that lots of folks do not understand the "doom and gloom" that will befall them once the US govt gets wind that you "mr common man" stole from the "real crooks" (THE GRUBBERMINT)-- once "mr grubbermint" gets on yer case --god help ya.

According to the records that I found the name of the ship is the S.S. Peacock. Doesn't sound like a Spanish name to me.

however -- the treasure transport vessel --had spanish personel onboard it for close protection of the money * --it was transfered to spanish custody in new orleans * but the treasure vessel was to be escorted to cuba by a american warship * the american warships name was ----take a guess..... Yep the SS Peacock

in fact on dec 23rd, 1826 the capt of the Peacock and the Hawaiian king --enter into the first "foreign treaty" that the hawaiians ever signed --bad mistake for the hawaiins *

so what? you say----please note that the PEACOCK is once again used in a diplomatic type of mission.
