Hello All!

I’m wondering if this is a gun or pistol trigger guard of some sort, where the trigger itself would’ve come through.

Thanks in advance,

Buck

I don't believe it is either. But, as I don't know what it is I cannot say definitely not a trigger plate.

It does appear the side opposite the screw inset holes are beveled at the ends of the slot. That may indicate a thumb wheel or some such was under the plate. Just a guess.

I think you’ve found part of a brass boxlock pistol. If I’m correct, it’s the top of the gun where that the hammer comes through. It could be from a percussion or flintlock pistol. Nice find.

Looks like a flint lock pistol plate the nice condition of it makes me think twice though

I would never have gone there but I believe that's what it is...

Y'all are incredible. Thank you! I had a bit of a hunch but it was great to see it confirmed! That shape is so distinctive, I wonder if some of these that are dug aren't identified correctly. Thank you again!!

Cheers,

Buck
