Gun Trigger/Hammer???

Today was a great day, a continuation of yesterday so to speak.
I dug the GAR Medal ( thank you to those who told me what it is/was) along with several other items which I will attach to this post. Some items were found yesterday like the clay pipes & buttons. I'm very curious about the relic that (to me) looks like a gun trigger. Any ideas?? Thank you & happy digging. 🤗🤗

I would say it was a trigger as well, very cool recovery. Nice going on he medal and the other finds like the pipe bowl.

I would like to say a trigger, too, but somehow, I can't make that mechanism function as one. It might be a trigger assembly for something, but I don't think it's to a firearm.

It kind of reminds me of an older style archery release that’s got pieces missing. I’m not sure how long mechanical releases have been around. Possibly this trigger is too old to be that.

I was also told it might perhaps be a trigger from an old flintlock pistol/rifle?
