I usually don't post but do read a lot of the other posts on this forum. Today was a first for me so would like to share it with you. Went out late this afternoon for about an 1 1/2 hunt at an old homestead which was built in 1920. I have hunted this property off and on for the past year. My better finds there to date have only been some wheat pennies and a Mercury dime plus the usual clad and misc. junk. The area is quite trashy and today I had my Minelab Terra 70 in all metal mode with a sensitivity setting of 27 and working the area real slow. Suddenly I hit a meter reading of a solid 44 at a depth of 6 inches. The possibility of a half dollar popped in my mind and after pin pointing, I began to carefully dig not wanting to scratch the coin if in fact it was what I was thinking it was. Digging into the ground I hit a tree root and had to dig beside it. Getting down about 5 inches, I stuck the pin pointer into the hole and got a signal under the root. At that point I stuck my hand into the hole and under the root felt something. Upon pulling the coin from the hole, I saw the 1945 Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
I'm working to get pictures and post on here as well to share with everyone.
It's moments like this that make digging all those memorial pennies worthwhile!!! HH
