Good evening fellow TNET members. Hot and dry to say the least. I'm becoming a muscle man digging this hard ground with my little trowel. It get easier at 6 inches. I started my hunt today deciding on something I should have done already, and that is buying a roll of string an boxing off the areas I have already hunted, because I know this is the only way to get at every inch of ground. Well, it started off slow and I became frustrated 2 hours in with meager finds. I wanted some coins that I know this place has. Finally 3 hours in I got a strong hit to the right. And it stayed to the right as I scanned the area. I was set in the coin mode and had the sensitivity at 3/4. After digging a large hole I pulled out a large object. I knew what it was as I had found another during the 4Th of July weekend. Sure enough out came this beauty. I have got in the habit now as not to rub the coins like I used to. But I had to see the date so I lightly scratched the dirt and it was an 1852. It's bathing in olive oil now but with a little bath in water and soap it cleaned up real nice. I also found what looks to be a wedge for splitting logs. Very crude tool and the head is slightly mushroomed. I also found my second oil lamp top, old shotgun casing, a 22 cal. shell casing, and a few other items. That circular thing has a 5 on it. When I found that I was certain it was a large cent. Thanks for looking again. I will be gone on the road for a while on a trip to Houston No more hunting until I get back. :'( Thanks Ron Smith

I've really been blessed as a newbie and having such fantastic places to hunt. Thanks. It's almost perfect except for some slight discoloration around the front. I 'll bathe it in olive oil for a while and see if that helps.

The holed object with a 5 on it is a petticoat weight. They were attached at the bottom of a dress in the 1800s and early 1900s in order to prevent it from coming up. Good ole John Walter told my uncle what they were.

I'd advise against the olive oil soak. It will be seeping out of the coin for years and years to come. The coin is perfect "as is."

Both cents are beauties, and I'd leave the 52 alone as pictured!

I haven't got the pin pointing method down completly. I'm good with the small coil but with the 9 inch I still need some work. Took the coin out of the olive oil. Wasn't in there more than 1 hour. Thanks for the tips. I'm too much of a perfectionist sometimes.
