This is one of my odd ones found it last year. But it's like what I think you all are talking about above.:icon_scratch: To me it's a cool piece only one I've found like it here.Pretty sure it's finished & only has the little broke piece missing which looks like it was tried to be reworked/flaked.Not sure what to call it myself.........Thought's???

Nice piece I would put that in the end scraper catagory.

I know they say scrapers were used in all periods, but I can't help but notice the " fluted" style on the top face. The side flaking is also exactly like a (the) Folsom's flaking that I have. Nice, pretty, and big scraper!

Thanks Gentlemen, you may be onto something there........I was reading a little about PES just now. It's just one of those odd balls that I need to follow/study up on.With hundreds of artifacts me & pop have found over the years theres still alot to learn.:headbang:

Paleo End Scraper -- Description

Very interesting read I book marked it. Thanks, rock

I have had this piece since about 06, we had a nasty drought that year. People were stealing each other's camels so that they could bust they humps for water. ( I'm sorry that didn't really happen. Don't know what gets into me sometimes) it was such a bad drought Kerr Lake's water level dropped in guessing 50 foot or better. That is a deeeep lake. Occoneechee island is normally flooded, that year, part of it could be walked. This came from there. It has always looked paleo to me. After reading the post above, I really think it is now. It has the spurs as mentioned above. I'm not 100% convinced by that article, however. Still a nice read. Thanks time killer!

Thats a nice piece of flint there NC. You can see the long strike where your finger are at? That is the key and also the beveling on the edges. They usually removed large flakes and used large tools for theirs. So they could go back and retouch the sides instead of making a new one. Thanks for the look

That is a nice flesher/scraper. I don't mean to split hairs but.. how can what was described above not be attributed to a good size Flesher of every time period? I have alot and they are not Paleo and have the exact same flaking. The fact that a couple strikes removed long flakes hardly dates a piece. Was it found with other Paleo artifacts? Ie.points.

Killer piece, Pete. It has a hafted end scraper look to me also. Is that a known type of flint or chert for you'r area?

Hey NC, whats the deal with the folsom? Do you hunt out west or did you buy it?

Thanks viking, yes i have found other artifacts made from this material here as well. Not that common though but they are others here i've found made from it. Makes nice pieces.

Take care,
Pete

Amazing how many of these you guys come across...Pretty rare for me in the Great Basin.
Believe this one began life as a Knife (thin and BIfaced)and was reworked..( location and material consistent with other knives I've found)

About 2 in.

Not sure exactly what it is. It isn't the most common material found on the river nor is it the rarest. I have found pieces like this that were broken, and at the break fossils were visible. That makes me think a type of chert.

Never hunted out west nor bought any thing???? Im not certain of what you are insinuating. Are you saying Folsom points are only found out west??? If so, let me know. I have lots of stuff I can send you to read. This one was found in Clarksville VA.
