Still solo hunting in lovely weather :icon_thumright:
Spent 3.5 hours finishing the last corner of the field. The grass was slightly shorter in this area. I couldn't believe I got the 5 hammered I need to hit 100 this year :blob7:
Also started a new area for 1 hour & had a Clog Clasp & Spectacle Buckle. (wandered for 30 minutes, making a 5 hour total hunt)
Plus:
17th C Token
Royal Farthing
Jetton
1.5 Lead Tokens
3 Roman Coins
Tudor Clothes Fastener
13th C Ring Brooch (no pin)

2x Edward I, Penny, 1279-1302 (Canterbury Mint)
Henry III, Cut halfpenny, 1247-72
Richard I ?, 1189-99, Cut Halfpenny (still checking ID, this would be my first & very rare)
Alexander III, Scottish Cut Halfpenny, 1250-80 :)
What a day :o It nearly doubles my hammered count off this field (which includes several years worth of hunting)

Thanks its a magic number (second highest ever), last year we got 77 & it's hard to improve on that when we got 108 the previous year. They don't grow on tree's & we have had to up our game plan. We could not have tried harder this year, unless I was out of work :laughing9:

As always you find the coolest stuff. The hammered coins are my favorite. Have you ever found both halves of a cut coin? Thanks for sharing. DD.

Very good question. No, I have never had both halves. I think that one would be near impossible

Thanks. It's funny how it works out. I really didn't want to finish this corner, its not been good in previous years, but I never like to leave ground undone, & this proves why. Even in previous dead spots, goodies can work there way up. I know tomorrow on new land, it will be a slog but in this game anything can happen, fingers crossed :icon_thumright:

Congrats, on another excellent hunt and on making 100 Hammered coins for the year and the years is still not over.
With regards to finding both halfs my buddy did it on one dive. These are gold sovereigns from the 1800s. if you look at the one in the forground on the pontoon it is in 2 pieces. (Personally I think he might have broke it when he was extracting it.)LOL

Yeah, slightly different. I have had a broken Georgian gold coin & my mate found the other half years later. However, hammered silver was cut mostly as change in a market situation, so the trader would keep 1 half & the buyer the other. Therefore, decreasing the likelihood of them being lost at the same time or place.

Nice one Cru :icon_thumright:. Is the thimble ally or silver, I can't tell?. Good one on the hammereds, the cut halves and quarters were also made at the mint so that they were uniform. I'll check in my books for when this became common policy, H3 from memory. I love the Richard 1 and the Scotty, I have only found one Richard penny. Shaun says "well done you jammy dodger" :laughing7:

Keep it up mate :icon_thumleft:

So, you think I hear a sweet tone, look down see an ally Thimble on top, break my stride & get out the camera :D

I know they cut them at the Mint, but I thought this was more common with the Scottish Mints, however, I would not be surprised if other English mints did it as well :icon_thumright:

Say 'Hi' to Shaun7, & yes I was in jammydodgervill :laughing7:

That childs thimble is so small, it only just goes on the very tip of my small finger (& I have skinny hands) ::)

New Years not here yet, but the Team will be back up to full strength by then
