My buddy has been on a roll lately with old silver, first a two Reales from Spain and now a REALLY old one! 1500's ?!?! Looks to be a 159* hammer Spanish silver?? This coin is awesome, I never thought I would see 1500s come out of the ground around here! Any help on the ID would be great.

One time I picked up a shiny new clad quarter and saw two globes (some state quarter) and thought is was a globes and pillars. I shouted to a buddy then felt like a real idiot. Hahaha

Yes. That can happen as well. I remember hunting at very old site. After hearing a nice signal pulled from a pinpointer depth a nice shiny coin the size of a 2 Real. Was super excited until noticed it's just a religious aluminum token with the words ''Don't Blaspheme!'' in French. Let me tell you it was pretty hard to follow the token's instruction for a couple of minutes...:laughing7:

I've had a few over the years-this one I thought it was some type of coin from India as I could make out the elephant. We all had a good :laughing7: when I was informed it was a Roman silver.

Awesome find! 1758 or 1759 Ferdinand VI half reale. You can see the F(RD) VI on the obverse. His reign was from 1746-1759.

Hbeaton, you're so right !
If it's 16mm in diameter and weighs no more than 1.69 grams, it's a 1/2 R.
The coin is from the reign of Fernando IV (1746-1759).
Part of the legend is legible. The entire legend would read: FRD VI D.G. HISP ET IND R
If the coin had only royal crowns, it was minted during the period 1747-1758.
If the coin had both imperial and royal crowns, it was minted between 1757 and 1760.
Don......
