Hand rolled halves and your input!!!

I have noticed alot of hunters here talk about ordering halves by the box.I yet to do that but all I get here in S.C. is the customer rolls.I have alot of luck finding them here and they're pretty abundant.I have seen alot of the hunters comment that the customer rolls are very rare in certain areas .I wonder why that is?Anyway HH.

I prefer customer rolls over boxes.

My guess is that many CRH on this forum talk of having to turn their coins back in by bag or coin counter instead of rolling at home. I have seen many posts where folks say their banks won't even accept rolled coins. I think since we live in some of the less populated areas, our banks are more accepting of the rolled coins. There is only one coin counter in my whole city and any bank welcomes the rolls.

Just different "politics" among banks in different areas of the country, IMO.

I find nearly all of my silver halves from loose and cwr's. I haven't had much luck with half boxes but then I haven't searched too many either. The only bad thing about custoner halves is the limited amount of volume I can do. I search a lot of banks every week so I am able to find them it's just that they are so productive for me I wish I could search even more of them.

Since I live in such a small area I rarely find new CWR halves and loose So I mostly do boxes. Anytime I can find loose or CWR though I scoop them up. My first score came from CWR and I was hooked. Still my nicest Box score easily trumps my CWR though.... It just all depends.

CWR rolls around me are hard to come by for me. I'm in a fairly heavily hunted area so I constantly hear about the old man that comes every day or the other guy that was just there. The best was one time while I was picking up my 4 boxes, a woman comes in and asks the teller next to the one helping me for any halves they have, my teller looks at me and then at my 4 boxes sitting on the counter and started to laung a little after the other teller told this woman that they didn't have any.

If I did mostly CWRs instead of boxes I'd barely have any finds. It's just too hard to compete with the retired folks around me who can go out almost every day and hit the banks for CWRs.

As others have mentioned , the CWR's show up randomly - no real pattern - I just ask when I
am in certain banks - I will say that since you generally are only dealing with a few rolls - when
you score any silver , it feels like a big deal ! Argentium.

I agree with db23 about the competition. When the boxes are producing well I dont even think about road trips.

Here's a funny story that happened to me earlier this year around Valentine's day.

I was second on line waiting for a teller, and I noticed that the older gentleman in line in front of me had a heart box of candy in his hands. I thought "oh great he's gonna give them chocolate and ask for halves." When he got to the teller he did give her the heart, but just did a deposit. When I got to the teller I asked for halves and she had $98 worth so I took them all. As I stepped aside to situate the 9 rolls and loose halves the woman in line behind me stepped up to the teller and I overheard her ask for halves and the teller told her "I just gave them all to him" (meaning me). It turns out I thought the hunter was in line in front of me (the older man), but the hunter was actually a woman behind me (thank goodness). Inside that $98 worth of halves were 35 40%ers.

CWR used to be hard to find around here, until another CRH'er started working lots of boxes here and dumping them at every bank in the area.

It is virtually impossible to find a roll of halves without that dude's mark on the roll. At least he is marking...I am thankful for that...but it has taken the fun out of half hunting.
