Depends on the material you are working and the water conditions. See what others in your area think if you don't feel experienced/qualified to decide.

I have the california Hand Trommel (got the -8 mesh screen) and love it! Man what a time saver and so easy to set up. With the -8 mesh screen I can use it for my new Gold Cube. I just bought a 50 plastic flat bottom water tank to put in the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee to add to my recirculting arsenal as I live in S. California and water is a luxury.

The trommel was killer when using it in a stream at the head of my LeTrap sluice-yeah buddy!
