I’ve only detected at the beach a few times and was discouraged by the bottle caps, pull tabs, and foil….and ESPECIALLY frustrated by signals near the water. As I dug the target the hole refills itself with sand and water and I can’t get to it even though there is a strong signal. I used a hand scoop (no long handle)..gave up…

I hit the dry sand to try out the “new” Equinox 800…Lots of trash as expected…Then, YAY..a silver necklace! “Return to Toffany” hearts! I read where this was popularized by keychains labeled as such in 1974 where they actually registered the keychains with a serial number so the keys could be returned. Later the jewelry was marketed with those words but it doesn’t appear. to have any number to actually return to owner! It retails for $250.

I was more interested in trying to find Stan’s phone (he approached me at the beach) that he dropped but was not able to locate that. I really wanted to find THAT.

So, detecting the beach is interesting. Guess I will go again!😉

Thanks! I have been looking at all the options but haven’t narrowed it down yet.
One thing to keep in mind, the bigger the holes in your scoop the quicker the sand falls through, but small items like earrings, chains charms and small pendants fall through too, and it can drive you crazy that you can't seem to scoop a target.

True. I kept sticking the pinpointer in the hole and it gave a string signal. I forgot the VDI number on the equinox, but I did give up. Aluminum usually gives a strong signal so I am guessing it might have been aluminum…But true…good gold could go through those holes!

But is the small gold that passes through the holes really something to worry about?

I love detecting the beach and once you get use to the Nox at the beach, you will love it to. I use a short handled scoop, as the long handled hurts my back. It’s a lot easier then dirt digging.

Nice! I like beach hunting, but I don’t think my AT Pro does. The signals from salt water drives it crazy.

Nice finds. Beach detecting can be tough. I just went to Atlantic beach in N.C. Found about $2.50 in total among the pull tabs, foil, etc. I gotta say that my Nox 600 was doing great finding small bits of pull tabs well over 12 inches down.
I didn't have a scoop either, made it some tough digging. I mainly stayed in the white sand although I did find a quarter and dime in the wet sand. It seemed that on that beach, at least, the targets were pretty concentrated along a specific line along the beach, about 10 to 20 feet from the dunes.
Good hunting.....
