I see that allot of old coins have a AG grade in books. And to qualify they have to be identifiable. But how Identifiable? What if you have to look really hard through a eye piece, and can make out a date, but the condition is so worn you are surprized to make out anything at all. What i mean is the faintest date that is barely readable.

A lot will depend on the denomination and series but in general an AG coin has to have a readable legend and date and the main design outline must be visible too. Without those details, it would grade Fair....or worse.

Familiarize yourself with PCGS Photograde, it's a great tool. Also, books like redbook are way off on values, just FYI.
