Some kindof piece of iron, I thought it was some old cap off something. It has 16 what I'm calling "fingers" around it. I found it in the backyard on my first time out, probably 3 inches down. I know it can't be worth nothin but I was just curious if anyone might know something

Oh really, someone I work with said they thought that might be what it is but after they looked closer at it they said probably not. I was wondering how would it stay on?

its a metal fence cap maybe....... or the end of the spout for like flower watering pot..... or the center cap of and old hubcap

No, I was suggesting that it may be an old bottle cap before these were used.

We would have to search back in the 1800s patents to verify this as an early closure. I think its too large for soda. SODABOTTLEBOB would know for sure. But I dont think he frequents the forum anymore.

It reminds me of an electrical box conduit hole plug but not quite. :icon_scratch:

Hey BigCypress,

It is way to big for soda, and it's not a Crown Cap. Crown Caps are crimped, not pierced. There were larger containers, and even a milk bottle or 2 that took large crowns in the years after the turn of the last century, but they are few & far between.

When I first found it I thought it might go on a metal gas can or something

I agree. I have never seen a bottle closure like this.

There seems to be something very familiar about this piece. I keep thinking it might be an axle cap for an old baby buggy, tricycle, or something similar.

The closest thing that I have found that resembles the outer rim, is this garden hose end replacement piece. The outer edge is designed to clamp around a lip for sealing. Just trying to add some insight.

I was thinking the same as you, but I have not found or remember any of those particular type fasteners that fit the item above. I was even thinking of it being a retainer for keeping an axle berring in place. But I will keep looking and thinking. :icon_scratch:

It looks like it was made to snap on to the end of a shaft, it's beefy enough.

I have restored and worked on several Peddle Cars, and these are the type of fasteners that are used to keep the wheels on.
