I was at this old school that was tore down in the 60's. I dug this token about 5 inches deep. The date that is on it is the date of the first indy 500, may 30 1911. I dont think the token is that old but I have not found any others on the net. So any help would be great. Thanks alot.

Not until you posted this! As a huge Indy fan, I'd love to find something like that. Hope you're able to put a date to it.

Looks more like an advertizing token, some for Indy but more for the International Metal Polish Co. of Indianianapolis Ind. I'll bet there is some history in that company. I wonder of the hole is original with the manufacture, and if so, what it hung on. A bottle of metal polish? Get some, and try it on the token. It may be blue ribbon!

Very Nice Looking Token.........

I dont think the hole was originally there because it looks like it was drilled because they went through some numbers.

looks to me to be from the 1920's based on lettering style and overall appearance of the token. you might try contacting them and seeing what they say: http://www.blueribboninc.com/about.asp

Congrats on the nice Token! :icon_thumright:

On the hole being drilled later: I don't know. It is close to the last zero, but there is nothing missing in
"$25,000 Sweepstakes. Just thinking outloud. And what is the date of the first Indy? could be 1911. If not, then maybe the token is a 1911 token. Or advertizing card.

I found one for a bank once. It wanted to be a fob, I think, but it just had a hole in it like this one. Some of the fobs I have have a much nicer "handle" than just a hole. The bank was for the 50th anniversary, but it didn't give the date of beginning or 50th. I will have to research that some day. Small bank in a backwater agricultural county in Colo., probably in the 50's. Not too much hope for online info. I should talk to some old timers before they die.

Very Cool!!..I didnt know the INDY 500 was that old...Great Find

It's an awesome token, advertisement or sponsorship or whatever! Bet it is worth a few box tops. HH, Mike

I hope it is buddy.

Nice find.
Found one many years ago in my hometown while hunting an old yard. I talked to an old gentleman from the Indy 500 museum and he said he had only seen one before, He believed that they were passed out to attendees at the very first 500 mile race.
